DAZ process keeps running after closing program

Hello all -

Every since I upgraded to 4.10 a couple weeks ago, I've noticed that even after I close DAZ Studio, the process keeps running, using a steady 13% of my CPU at all times. The only way to stop it is to open task manager and close the process from there.  Has anyone else had this problem? Any idea what could be causing it?

Thanks!

It's supposed to happen. There's a lot of tidying up at the system level going on after you exit from DAZ|Studio, e.g. finding and deleting temp files, freeing memory used in rendering, etc., and D|S will keep chugging along in the background until this is finished. The same thing happens with the multiple instances of the Postgres content database process, which does various background tasks before stopping. None of this should take more than a few minutes, although some people have reported it can take a bit (or a lot) longer to complete.

Note that this isn't new; it's been going on for several years, since the early versions of D|S — perhaps it's been zipping along in earlier versions so fast you didn't notice, but it's a lot slower now you're using D|S4.10.

I think the big question is how long does this last? If it keeps running all day in the background after shutdown it could be a problem. If it's just doing some cleanup for a minute or so, that's another story.

Well, I haven't used DAZ since some time yesterday, and it's still going.

Yes, it seems that way to me. That leads to the obvious next question: What should I do about it?

If they're still chugging along more than a few minutes after closing D|S, it should be OK to close them in Task Manager.

I'd probably file a ticket with tech support, or just wait until others chime it to see if it's fairly common.

Yeah, if it's still going along this long, and it shouldn't be, that tells me there's a problem. I shouldn't have to shut down the processes through Task Manager every time I close DAZ. I will file a ticket. Thanks for your help, ebergerly and SpottedKitty!

  • well I am having the same problem it causes my pc to crash if it not closed in Task Manager.
