Well ... maybe a more general question ... how does one use this tool to allow us 3DL users to use some of the cool glowy products? Am I wrong in referring to them as emissive?
They are emissive, however emissives don't work in 3DL. Other tricks need to be used to make it glow using 3DL
So anything "emissive" or "glowy" would need to be first translated/converted to 3DL using the script them something more to get the light or neon or glow effect. Right? Can you point me to a good tutorial on that? I'd pay good money for script that would do it for me, lol.
You would need to apply a 3Delight emissive shader, UberArea Light I think.
Actually there is a tutorial here in the store explainign all the ways to use 3DL, let me go find it, should be in my library.
Here you go and it just so happens to be on sale.

Sorry but that is not correct. You could for example use the Omnifreaker arealight shader (light presets/Omnifreaker) which is part of the starter essentials. Or use Marshian's reflective radiance shaders. Or use scripted pathtracing with the PT arealight shader. When using the built in 3DL pathtracer basically every ambient surface emits light. If you use the vanilla renderer Omnifreaker's arealight will do just fine, insert the emissive maps into light color.
How much to bribe you to do a video tutorial of that?

You are a gem ... I'll go grab that right now :)
I've been thinking of adding a tutorial on setting up emissives to my tips thread (in my signature). However the mods put me on pre moderation due to something I posted in the NFT thread so posting is a bit of a pain right now. I hope you find what you need in that 3DL workshop and I'll try to come up with something possibly useful maybe end of next week. Good luck with your project!
Thanks, Sven Dullah ... you're a sweetie :)
Another converting question ... do tools like https://www.daz3d.com/valentino-8-hd-add-on work with this script?
HD add-ons are morphs, not textures. There's nothing to convert to use them with 3DL.
Excellent :)
Could you not do a video and upload to youtube, as I also would be very interested in such, assuming you meant emissives for 3DL, cause I have never heard of that, have not yet reached that part of the tutorial I linked above.
Sorry for being a bit off topic...and for not doing a video:) I put together an introduction on using emitters in 3DL here. If you have additional questions, just drop them there;)
Awesome ... thanks :)
River ... I've run into another Iray product that is problematic when trying to render in 3DL, for some reason, and I'm hoping you can help me resolve a problem I've found out many others are having with this product, too. The armor is Orlean's armor. My initial thread of what has been happening is https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/493236/daz-keeps-crashing-or-stalling-any-help-would-be-amazing The other thread on this topic is https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/294091/.
On the off chance that I wasn't wrong, I rendered in Iray knowing nothing about it and not using an Iray environment or lights or knowing what would happen, and it surprisingly rendered, but as it is, it would match the 3DL shaders and light already set up for the scene this guy has to go into. So I need a way to either get this one problematic armor to render in 3DL or convince my client to change the armor he wants.
I have run the script both with default and non-default settings, and a spot render crashes Daz, while a 3DL render errors, then locks Daz into a continual loop where no more rendering can happen. The Iray render does render, but then also locks Daz after one render. Let me know if I need to make a new video showing you all of this.
You could look at IBL Master as an aid to render parts of scene separately in 3DL and Iray using the same lighting and then composite. That always seems tricky to me but other people do it.
I do not know why it is crashing. Did you try changing the Material Match Strategy to Permissive so it converts more materials?
It only crashes when I try to spot render. It errors and partially freezes when I try to regular 3DL render, providing a blank image. And it renders, but still freezes for any future renders when I Iray render. Here is a video showing each attempt and result (), as well as a fresh log attached below.
A bunch of people in the thread about this problem will virtually kiss you if you figure out whats causing this armor to mess with Daz.
I am sorry @WillowRaven, but this is outside the scope of what Iray to 3DL does. I really cannot help. Based on the log from the other thread, there is a crash:
Because it crashed, that might be why subsequent renders do nothing.
Thanks for trying, River. I suspected it had nothing to do with the conversion tool, but I also hoped it was that easy, lol.
Am I missing something? I purchased this awhile back, and the first few times, it worked beautifully. Now, however, the "Apply Presets" is always grayed out, so its useless - and DAZ tech support has been equally useless at helping me out with this.
Does anybody know what the problem might be?
I assume you are clicking on Scan and rhen Find Matches first? I know when I didn't use it for awhile, I forgot how to use it and had to review the readme file.
Good tip! I forgot about that myself.
