Poser Content in Daz Studio

I have not been on this forum for some years back I purchaced the Bible Village People which are in a .pz2 extension. I have watched some older videos and have read other suggestions on how to do this but I have tried before and it does not work for me. It could be that I am not following all the steps. I am wondering with all the upgrades on Daz Studiio can I load the Poser runtime file in the right place so it works in Daz Studio? I am using the newest version. I don't have Poser on my commputer anymore as I am mostly using Blender 2.79. I am hoping to get the village people in Daz and then converting them to an FBX file to install in Blender.

pz2 is a format for presets (materials, poses or morphs), so if the product only includes pz2 it's an add-on for something else.
Leana
You are correct and do to my lack of knowledge I used the wrong file extension. That was the extension in the "pose" file. The Village People are called Bible 3d.pzs. I read a post by you today at on this topic from sometime back helping someone with this problem but don't think they ever got it to work. It could be the person was not understanding all the steps. But I totally understand. What is the best way to load the libraries poser files in the lastest Daz studio? I have tried the putting the runtime folder in the Daz runtime but never can fine that it worked. IThen I spend allot of time tring to find the product in Daz but it is not to be found. Are there two runtime folders one for Daz and another in Daz for Poser runtimes? I have never really needed to do this before so it this process is new to me. .
Thanks for you reply and help.
The Runtime from the zip needs to be merged with the existing Runtime in you content directory (e.g. the My Library folder), after which the files can be accessed via the Content Library pane in DS under Poser Formats>Content directory used>
As Richard said, the simplest option is indeed to merge the Runtime with the one to DS, but you can also use a separate folder for your poser content if you prefer.
What is important is that the folder containing the Poser Runtime is listed among the Poser content directories in DS.
To do that, open DS and go to Edit > Preferences, open Content tab then select Content library manager at the bottom of that tab. This will open the screen where you can configure where DS content libraries are located.
Check what directories are listed under Poser Formats. Add the folder containing your Poser runtime if it's not there already, and save the preferences.
Then go to the Content Library pane (not Smart Content, which displays only content with metadata). If it's not open, use Window > Panes menu to open it. You should have an entry for "Poser Formats" at the top of the hierarchy, with the folder containing your Poser runtime listed there.
Thanks for the help, I read Richard's reply then tried it and I went into my C drive and then programs both 32 and 64 bit and found the Daz 3d and opened every file that I could. Yes I spend about an hour and ahalf and I never did find a content folder or library folder. I even checked the Daz 3D in my Documents but still nothing. I then read the Daz help manual and they give about four or five places to look and one was the script folder but still no content folder or library folder. I just downloaded or updated Daz yesterday. This is getting a little frustrating as I used to be able to find the content library folder in the past. Don't have a clue what I am doing wrong. The idea of creating a new folder as suggested will be the best way to go at this time. I will give it a try today. Thanks
I did some more checking and the only runtime files I could find via a search was in my computer under my user name then Document\Daz 3D\Studio\My Daz Connect Library\data\cloud Then I get a bunch of files with number each containing a runtime. In order to follow the steps I was given I at least need to find "the poser content diretories in DS." I will keep working on this and in the meantime hopfully someone can tell me what I am doing wrong.
The folder isn't usually called "content", the defaults are My Daz 3d Library in the Public Documents folder and \Daz 3D\Studio\My Library in the User's documents folder.
Richard this did the trick. I never thought of looking under "public" I always look under "user." I will see if I can make this work. Thanks to both of you for your help.
The "My Daz Connect Library" folder is for content installed via Connect (ie directly from DS), you can't use that directory for manual install.
"My Daz 3d Library" in public documents is the default path for content installed using DAZ Install Manager.
"My Library" under documents (it should be next to "My Daz Connect Library") is the default path for content you install manually.
If you only installed content via Connect you may not have any other Runtime directory outside the Connect folder right now. In this case you simply need to decide on a folder where you will install your poser content from now on (for example "My Library" in Documents), put your poser Runtime directly in that folder and make sure this folder is listed under Poser formats in DS. Next time you install a Poser product you will merge its Runtime with this one.
Yes glad you posted just as I was getting ready to edit. I had already come across problems trying to use the "My Daz 3D Library" as the Bible Village People all have there own runtime folders. You can't load a runtime folder with another runtime in the same file. So it appears that I need to put in the whole folder. I have a folder for each Village person which contains the runtime. I have a folder called "Village Boy" and inside this folder is the "runtime."
I looked in my user documents and this is my tree sturcture - Users\Allen\Documents\Daz 3D\Studio\My Daz Connect Library\data\cloud\ after this I get about 30 folders or more with numbers each number folder contains "data folder, figures folder and a runtime folder. What I am thinking that all my content has been asigned numbers. Should I install my folders here?
No, this folder is only for content installed with Connect. Connect installs each product in a separate subfolder labelled with the product ID from the store (sku), and there's a mechanism in DS to display them together based on the list of products it installed. If you put content manually there it won't work, you need to put it outside "My Daz Connect Library".
Do you have a "My Library" folder in "Users\Allen\Documents\Daz 3D\Studio\", for example? If so, take the Runtime folder from each of the "Village Boy" and other "Village XXX" folders and copy them there. Windows will tell you that some folders already exist in the target and ask you if you want to merge them, say yes. Then add "My Library" under Poser format in DS if it's not there already.
I am very glad you both are willing to walk me through this process. This has always been hard for my concrete thinking to wrap my mind around. Here is what the the structure lools like "User\Allen\Documents\Studio\My Library\data\auto_ adapted" I could also choose "data" which only opens items from "Realms Art" under "auto Adapted" are files such as Anders_hair_35789 and so forth. In most of these files are a file called "geometry and inside some of these files are Daz load icon.
Seems like there is something missing but I did not leave out any steps. C:\Users\Allen\Documents\Documents\Daz 3D\Studio\My Library\data This is what it looks like in my properties window under General. Here is the full location "C:\Users\Allen\Documents\Documents\Daz 3D\Studio\My Library\data\auto_adapted" I just copy and pasted this from the properties panel. Inside auto_adaptive are my Dax items as mentioned.
Not sure where to put my Village People files?
Thanks
.
"data" is a technical folder for content in DS format, that's where the geometries, morph data and UV data are stored.
You should put the Runtime directly inside "My Library" folder, next to "data".
Ok Thanks Leana it seems like I am heading in the right direction. I put all 6 files in "My Library" folder. I then opened Daz and only one of them appears under Content Library - Poser Formats- My Daz Library -under Figures. . So one out of six is a good start. I was real excieted to see the Villager Boy with all his materials. I installed them all the same. Any Ideas?
Where exactly are the files you have installed, and what are their names?
Richard,
I checked in the Content folder in Daz for the Villager Boy because he is the only one that is working. I right clicked on Villager Boy and then clicked on “Browse to folder location” and this is what is showed “C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3DLibrary\Runtime\Libraries\Character\Villager Boy R2” None of the other files are listed in this location. The file was changed to “Villager Boy R2.”
The other files are Village Man for Poser – Village Old Man for Poser – Village Old Woman for Poser – Village Woman for Poser – Villager Boy for Poser – Villager Girl for Poser.
I installed them in the “C:\Users\Allen\Documents\Daz 3D\Studio\My Library” I took each folder and put in on top My library so it copied them inside this folder.
I must have done something different with the Villager Boy to make it work.
Did you put the "Village man" and other folders in My Library? You need to put the Runtime folders there directly, and merge each of them with the existing one containing the village boy.
I loaded the whole folder with the runtime in it “C:\Users\Allen\Documents\Daz 3D\Studio\My Library” Are you saying I should have opened each file and then installed the runtime folder in “C:\Users\Allen\Documents\Daz 3D\Studio\My Library”? Just want to make sure I am understanding you correctly.
What does the "runtime" do as this may help me to understand how some of this works? Thanks Right now I am just following the steps as I think I understand them. I have been looking through these files so much that I have discoved a couple or runtimes and libraries.
I might also mention that this villager boy could have been on Daz before I started this process. This would explain why it is working. But this was some years back if this was the case.
Yes. There should only be one runtime folder with everything in it, directly in My Library, not one for each product in subfolders.
Runtime folder is the base folder for poser file structure. It contains technical folders for textures, geometry, and so on, and a "libraries" folder with the folders corresponding to the various figures, poses, props.. libraries from Poser.
When you register a folder under "poser formats", DS will look for a Runtime folder in it, recognize the Runtime as the base for poser library and ignore all other folders at the same level, considering they don't contain Poser content. It will then interpret the runtime structure to display your poser content correctly in the content library pane, for example hiding the technical folders and only diplaying the actual poser library files like cr2, pz2 and pp2.
Leana, Thanks for explaining the “runtime” folder but I am still confused about how to install the runtimes. I guess my poor mind does not work like some people. You said.
“Yes. There should only be one runtime folder with everything in it, directly in My Library, not one for each product in subfolders.”
It sounds like I should drag and drop the “runtime” folder into “My Library” directly. But when I go to drag the runtime from another file into “My Library” I am asked if I want to replace the other runtime.
The other question I have is why is the Villager boy (the file that works) in my Public Documents? “C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library\Runtime\Libraries\Character” and also in the “Pose” file C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library\Runtime\Libraries\Pose\Villager Boy R2 How did these files get in these locations?
Does the runtime take these files and put them in the Public Documents?
Wow I am making this difficult but I really want to make this work. I really need my Village People ha
If you are using Windows dragging a second or more runtiem into the My Library folder should merge them, so you end up with the contents of both. Macs are a bit trickier, but from your path it looks like you are using Windows.
Richard, I am using Windows 10 and when I drag and drop the runtime from one of my Village people folders into my Library this is what happens. Am I in the right location? Should I be in the Public Documents.
Those may well be files that are common to each figure, things like fabric textures perhaps. You could always choose the Let Me Decide for Each File option and see if that seems to be the case (or just let them overwrite, worst case you have to reinstall from the zip).
Yes I just tried using "Let Me Decide for Each File" and I know have the Villager Old Man in Daz 3d. But what happened to the other four. Well I should have taken notes. You know how it goes when you experiment. I will play with this more later. I need a break.
Thanks both of you for your help. I am getting closer all the time. I now have two Village People in Daz Studio only four more to go.
I thought for those who are following this topic I felt that I needed to share what happened after following the suggestions on this page. I opened up Daz today and all my Village people were in a folder called "My Library" under Poser Formats in the Content Library tab in Daz Studiio. The pose file was right under the Figuers file with everthing in place. So a big thanks for the help.
