Down time and the dinosaur

A week ago I had a wisdom tooth pulled; OUCH!!!!!. Been bothering me for years and got to where I just could not deal with it. 8AM appointment so that is how my day started. Got home feeling miserable; and that was before the local wore off. Figured I'd be down for couple of days. { note to dentists, if your patient says they have a high tolerance to pain killers don't give them vicoden, it's little more then glorified Tylenol.}
I figured 3 days of basically being miserable and on my comp. So online and ready to LOTRO all day. Comp shuts down. Start it back up and get a windows unable to load warning. eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeck. Got everything going was reading forums and, comp shuts down; no windows warning on the next start up. At first I thought my HDD had fried, nope, wasn't getting power. My comp has eaten it's 4th power supply in as many years. Got the new one ordered before the old one completely gave up. Better be here today.
But getting impatient; and having watched every movie I have that is worth watching, I dragged out this old dinosaur Gateway; 14 and still works but senile {have to set bios up every time I start it}. Nothing can update on it, all error out. Nothing can download, nothings security documents are good. So to get on to any site I have to create an exception in my firewall. And it takes longer to buffer a video then watch it.
I was going to fire up this old comp last week but it is so old it doesn't know what to do with an optic mouse and I had a very hard time finding a tack ball mouse. Had to go to a thrift store to find one. But I am on and trying to check my forums while impatiently waiting for the power supply that my email tracking number says should have been delivered yesterday.
Of coarse this makes me wonder why peopel were so down on Gateway comps. This old workhorse can still pull a plow ;)

"{have to set bios up every time I start it}."
Give it a new BIOS battery and it stops being senile. *grin*
Good luck on the new power supply!
Did removing the wisdom tooth give you the wisdom it was blocking? (Just kidding...)
Actually, I have had issues with my right ear for years, and my sinus on that side always seem half open. Guess what :D
And what would be the search term on newegg? Seriously, this may be an old plow horse, but it is my back up. I'm having other issues because I can't keep the time set for a sync up{?} for some stuff.
If it's not too old (a button battery) you should be able to find a replacement battery at Radio Shack. If it's a specialized battery like they had in the 1990s (funny shape), try Batteries+
If you're doing a search (Newegg only seems to have one) try CMOS battery
Well it wasn't the power supply

Considering my financial situation. I'm out. Don't have the money, nor do I see getting the money to replace it.
But I'm really not one to give up. I Have brand spanking new quality power supply; 600 watt and pretty neon green cables. 2 DDR3 2gig, and 2 DDR3 1 gig sticks. And an out dated ATI card, plus the 500 gig HDD; with all my stuff.
There is nothing on this comp. Wiped it clean years ago. Still slow as molasses, 2.4 pent4 and 1 gig of ram, old nvidia card.
Sorry to hear about all the trouble you've been having.
Man, you DO have a high tolerance for pain meds. I do, but Vicodin does work on me.
What else could a dentist actually prescribe that would be stronger?
Anyway, I hope you get your computer situation fixed.
I was taking 2 500mg every 5 hours or so, just to make the pain tolerable. I was functioning fine, if anything I was a bit wound up because of my comp being down; and me having a hard time finding a track ball mouse for this comp lol Didn't sleep at all the first night, and not much the next. But once the pain was tolerable I quit taking the vicodin, still have half a dozen.
I'm looking at this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883113266 not exactly that one, but similar in features and price range. But it will be one of those once I have the money things, so it may be a while. It has to be compatible with the HDD in my acer, and I think the one in that gateway is the same. And considering what I am using now, I can't say anything bad about gateway lol
I'm also looking at comp kits. After all I have the power supply, HDD, and so on :D
