Scenes are Slooow to Load

I'm using more detailed scenes and I'm not surprised that the load times are much longer/slower. I have an external solid state drive that I could use, but it's not near large enough (100 GB) to put my content library on. If I put my scene files on the SSD, would that make any difference---or is the load time determined by where the content is stored?
