Where is the create clothing menu in DAZ 4.6 ?

edited December 1969 in Daz Studio Discussion

I was watching a video tutorial which used the Scene -> Assets -> CreateClothing option to turn a .obj pro into clothing easily by auto rigging it to V4.

This is what I would like to do but when I look for that the "Create Clothing" option is missing.

Where has this gone? It would be really useful.

That was apparently an experimental feature that didn't stay for long. You need to use the Transfer Utility instead. Is your clothing made to fit the base Genesis figure or a morphed or posed figure?

The clothing is an .obj file designed to fit V4.

I have also created a .obj clothing using Marvleous Designer 2 on an extreme morphed V4 too.

Well, I don't think the Create Clothing option worked with V4 anyway - though I never tried it when it was there, so that could be wrong. You can transfer the V4 rigging to the clothing, but it isn't as straightforward as transferring the Genesis or other triAx rigging - for one thing, you need to split your OBJ into groups by body part (assuming it hasn't been done by MD), then you load Victoria 4 into the Figure Setup pane, import the OBJ and use it to replace the V4 mesh, and create the figure after which you will need to do at least some joint editing.

    I was following this : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SabzGVsSRjc

It seemed to work automatically without any material group creation/naming. Which is exactly what I would like to have. It is a pity if Daz no longer supports this. I have used the Transfer utility to attempt the same thing but it only seems to pick up the hips and legs and ignores the arms.

I an easy skeleton transfer for V4 clothing from obj clothing would be exactly what I need, I dont mind a small amount of tweaking but having to manually rig the whole skeleton seems silly.

Well, the tutorial does convert V4 to a weight-mapped figure so it is using the transfer Utility behind the scenes, and that's why it doesn't need the OBJ grouped.

You don't need to rig a skeleton anew.

Load V4, zero it, delete all morph, expression and pose channels (even empty ones, in all bodyparts, probably best done with Property Editor), and save as cr2 under new name.
You can use this barebone cr2 to rig clothes for V4 as a donor cr2. You can probably use "Extract donor rig" from it (Edit Figure -> Rigging) and insert it into your clothes.

There was previously a V4 development kit with such cr2 already made, but DAZ3D pulled it off around times Genesis came.

i see the extract donor rig in ds4.8, was wondering how to use it?

this the only thread came up on search.

  • If I am thinking of the right thing a donor rig gives you a basic figure rig you can use for setting up new figures, you obviously need to create a suitable figure first.

oh, it's not to transfer Vicki4 rig to her clothes?

I'm not sure - it is possible to have a bone-only rig, which could be used as a template in Figure Setup - that's why I hemmed and hawed a bit.
