Having some troubles with Victoria 8 and Tara 2

I bought Tara 2 first because i thought she was Genesis 8 compatible, so she didnt show up in "figures" because i realised she needed Victoria 8. No problem, i could see her dials in the "shaping" menu, so i kinda knew she was available despite not having her base model.

Then i got Daz Dog 2 and with it i got Victoria 8 for free. (excellent offer btw, really happy)

Now i can see Victoria 8 in the "figures" menu, i can load her up, but then i tried to apply some of the makeup and stuff she came with. RSL works fine, MDL doesn't do a thing. So i press render to see MDL does work for some things, and that wich does work doesn't show in the viewport. (a little bit weird, and kinda annoying)

When it comes to Tara 2, she's nowhere to be seen apart from her dials. No figure, no materials, no props, nothing.

I tried re-installing them to no affect.

So...  how do i approach this from here?

The readme has a list of where you should find the files for Tara: http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/read_me/index/46145/start

Ok, so now i know for sure that my eyes are not decieving me, because i don't see any icons according to any of those paths in the Smart Content section.

I can find Tara 2 through the Content Library, her files are present and working, but they don't show in the content library...?  So for Tara 2 i just need a way to make her stuff appear in the Smart Content tab, then she's all set.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling - it sounds as if the Content Management System may not have been running the first time (if you close daz Studio and start Install Manager the system can send conflicting signals, it's best to let both run at once as long as it's content, not plug-ins or the application, that you are installing).

Nope...   i tried re-installing the content as you said with both applications running. Nothing changed for neither Tara 2 or Victoria 8.

I'm going to assume the installer did it's job properly, is there some kind of "refresh" option i can try within the program?

If you view the files in the Content Library do they have the content-type flash at top-right (Actor, Shaping, Materials etc.)? If you right-click on one and select Show In>Show in Categories does it do anything?

Considering Victoria 8, i just loaded the default Genesis 8 female and tried to apply Victoria 8 make-up. In the viewport i can see the skin of her face change, but it doesn't show the makeup. But it still does show up in the render.

Usually when i apply a material there is a single short delay as it is processing, but when i apply the Victoria 8 Iray materials there is no delay. This appearantly applies to Iray materials only, the normal materials seem to do just fine, but i'm all about the Iray. So this is something about Iray materials and the viewport, apart from that Victoria 8 is all peachy.

The Victoria 8 make ups use the Diffuse Overlay proeprty, which doesn't show in the Texture Shaded preview.

I can see the yellow box featuring the file name, file path, author and file when i hoover over the icon in Content Library, if that is what you mean by content-type flash.

So i right-click and press "Show Asset in > Smart Content > Files", then i get a message saying; "The chosen products could not be found with the current filtering options." And i already turned off "filter by context" checkbox.

I just noticed that the Tara 2 figure icon is grey in the Smart content products tab. So the program thinks i have not downloaded her. Now i probably could download her from there, but these files will be stored seperate from all the rest of my content, while i rather keep things together by using DIM only.

So Victoria is working as intented? Ok, i guess thats settled then, good to know. I'm still new and all my previous figures just showed make-up so i guess i assumed something was wrong. But if thats how it works, then thats how it works. Cheers for the heads up.

So all i want done is Tara 2 showing up in my Content Library without using DazConnect. I had major troubles relocating everything to a different drive and setting things up, it was a weird semi-functioning mess with content all over the place. But now i got everything in order and i chose the DIM as my primary means for downloading and installing content because its folders have a better hierarchy.

I'm gonna reinstall a few more times to see if it does something, and wonder if there is something else i can do perhaps.

No, that's the tool tip. The thing I am talking about is a coloured bar with a single word (usually) at top-right of the thumbnail in the content pane, not a pop-up. It does sound as if there was a communication failure when installing through Install Manager - all I can suggest is trying again, assuming that other content is continuing to install correctly.

  • KNDKND Posts: 65

Yeah all the other contents works, including the Daz Dog i got today. Reinstalling Tara 2 seems to have little effect.

I turned on the grid view, i can see what you mean now. Yes, she is in the "Character folder", and she has a blue bar wich says "Actor". In the unfolded drop down thingy is her "Tara 2" folder containing all her assets showing their content-types. I think everything is in its proper place.

I can see how installing could go wrong once in a while, but not consistently wich is what it does.

When i right-click and press "Show Asset in > Smart Content > Files" i do see it reads some information because it leads me to the tab for "Figures > People > Female > Real World" wich is correct except the product is not found. The content knows where it wants to go.

I'm going to assume the package is correct, installation of the package by the DIM is done right as everything is where it should. All content is present and available, except Daz3d doesn't recognize it's presence and doesn't show the product in the Smart Content tab as a consequence of that.

How do i tell the program; "look buddy, it's right here!?"

OK, if you are gettijg the tags then it is in the database. Try finding Tara in the Products tab of Smart Content (just type Tara in the filter box, then click on the All Products group). Assuming that works at all, open the product and look at the categories listed inside.

  • KNDKND Posts: 65

She has a grey thumbnail in "Smart Content > Products" because DazConnect wants me to download her. When i right-click "Show Product in Content Library" it brings me to the letter "T" where i find another grey icon. I can right-click from there back to where i came from.

I guess i just will install this one through DazConnect, even though it goes into a seperate folder, as long i don't get other items refusing to appear it should be manageable and i don't have to worry about excess content being installed. Either way thanks for the support buddy, you been of great service.

I don't understand how it can be isntalled, and being seen by the CMS since it has the content type tags, and yet show as not installed. Keep an eye out for other oddities, and back up the database and export user data (Content Library option menu, the lined button in the top corner or right-click the tab) > Content DB Maintenance > Export User data, in case this is a symptom of database corruption.

  • KNDKND Posts: 65

Well other oddities might contain me downloading through DazConnect, and now show she appears twice as everything is in duplicate in the Smart Content library. Once as "Tara 2" and once as "Tara 2 Victoria 8." But i don't know if that is related or seperate form the the problem with the DIM content.

If the names are different then the files would be different, that sounds more like two versions of the figure. If you select them and expand the info tab at the bottom of the pane (you may need to click the expand button, a dark area in the bottom edge of the frame, to do so) you will see the path for the file and can compare them.

  • KNDKND Posts: 65

Oh hold on, i think i get it. One is for Victoria 8, the other is for Genesis 3, it doesn't mention it in the title but i see a folder seperating the two versions.

I think everything is in order, just a little confusion. Thanx for the assistance bro.

I have the same problem, and I still don't find her.

I have victoria8 but I don't have victoria7 so is it because of that? I wonder...

I just don't find any tara2hd in my smart content.

The base compatibility would be with the Geensis # Female, not Victoria #, I would expect. How did you install, and in which pane(s) are you looking?

I install it through DIM (Daz Install Manager) and after that I noticed that the product was in grey color in Daz son I install it in Daz.

Now the product is colored but when I go to smart content>figures or in the products and double click on Tara2 Hd, well I just have the basic message "Where are my files"...

That looks like an inciomplete instalaltion - note the Update button, and the U-arrow icon at top-right of the thumbnail. It also sounds as if you may have a general issue with your paths or with the Content Management System if the product is showing grey (not installed) after installing with DIM. Are you using the default content locations or have you changed them?

I am using the default one. Yeah, it's weird, first I thought it was because I don't have victoria7 but normally I should at least see the Tara for victoria8...

Can you find the files in the Content Library pane under Daz Studio Formats? They should be in Daz Studio Formats>People>Genesis 8 Female>Characters>Tara 2 from the DIM install.

    Hi Richard,

Sorry for the late reply, 2 days ago when we were talking I had the bad idea to uninstall/reinstall Tara2HD through DIM.  While trying to reinstall it I had the "Download failed" so I guessed it was a Daz server side problem and I waited.

Yesterday I installed Tara again and clicked on the 'update' button as you mentioned before and it worked. So thank you for that.

Now it's working as it's supposed to be! Thanks.
