Lip Glossiness

I am trying to crank up the glossiness on my lips and I can't get them shiny (enough). Best settings suggestions??

-Specular/Glosiness?

-Metallicity/Glosiness?

-Weighted?

Thnx!

Bedst leave the texture with the settings that it was designed for, as you'll otherwise have to change quite a few more things.

Have you tried to reduce the Glossy Roughness, and increase the Glossy Reflectivity? That is what usually determins that behaviour.

You can also decrease the Refraction Index, 1.33 is water.

And there's the Metallic Flakes - you'd have to use the Metallic Flakes Weight slider to dial them in, and then tinker around with the values.

You might also try the Top Coat settings. do bear in mind, however, that the lip Surface extendes beyond the lips themselves, to allow for a natural blend, so you may need to use, and perhaps modify, the mask that controls the current effects.

I follow, but can you elaborate what specific changes you are eluding to?

Just watch for the gloss spreading into the skin adjacent to the lips. If it does there should probably be a mask image already appllied the strength settings for the lips, you may need to apply it to other properties or you may need to make a copy and adjust its levels so that it still pulls the skinareas down to the correct value.

Regardless of whether youre using iray or 3delight or something else, the basics for shiny lips is to crank up your glossiness to nearly max, say 9.2-9.8 on a 1-10 scale, then just keep adjusting your specularity to get the look your seeking. Generally I start with spec cranked nearly all the way down (dark) then dial it up (lightening it) until I get that shine. The exact spec setting can vary greatly, sometimes very dark work well, other times very light.

  • I appreciate this explanation but it is lost on me completely.  The software isnt user friendly enough for me to figure how to complete all the steps you listed.

OutOfTouch has an Iral lip gloss and lip colors product on Rendo that might get you what you need. It works well and has several settings for gloss levels.
