The results of the Genesis Custom-Dialed Character Contest have been announced!

Eight finalists are eligible for the Bonus Prize ($10 in store credit, provided by DAZ 3D, and $15 in gift certificates, sponsored by myself, Jaderail, and Novica). The winner will be determined by a public vote, and all registered DAZ 3D forum members are welcome to participate. In order to keep the focus on the characters and renders themselves, the names of the artists who created these images have been deliberately removed from this thread. If you are curious who made what, that information is readily available elsewhere on the forum, but in any event please vote for the art, not the artist.

It's up to each voter what criteria you would like to use: feel free to vote for your favorite character, or for the image you find most impressive, or for a combination of things.

The eight finalists are being presented in random order (I used a random number generator). I've attached all renders that were part of the entry post (in some cases, this includes both raw and postworked versions of the same image).

Clancy a.k.a. Homunculus

Here is my second entry, an original character named Clancy a.k.a. Homunculus (and occasionally, when he's feeling particularly inferior, Dr. Homunculus... though no institution known to any reputable accreditation board has ever issued him an advanced degree).

He has a machine he calls "The Machine" or sometimes "Señor," and a generally uncooperative companion named Sabra. There's history between them, or at least Clancy thinks there might be. She mostly thinks he kidnapped her. He would counter that "rescued" is more accurate. Who knows. Sabra is not an entry in the contest, Clancy is, but for anyone interested, I've got her formula here along with a picture of what happened after Clancy went and retrieved her lost slipper.

There are three pictures here in the entry, all were rendered in 3delight with DS 4.6. The two with the machine have some postwork done in Pixelmator, mainly dust, haze, and color tweaks. The one on the flying disc has no postwork at all.

The light set is one I made myself. It uses 2 area light panes, 2 area light discs, and 2 distant lights.

The first 2 images have some postwork done in photoshop. The last two are raw renders. Image 4 is the raw render for image 1. (that is, if they get uploaded in the right order...)
