32-bit woes

I have become addicted to 3D modeling in the past year and have become accustomed to Daz, however, as Daz continues to upgrade the technology, it's leaving me in the dust. My 32-bit computer can't keep up with all the tdlmake.exe's and memory-related crashes. I know I need a new computer, but my 'dream machine' is beyond my budget.
I'm looking for any advice, any tips, whatever, to make the most out of what little I have to work with. My primary problem is rendering. 3Delight has about 10% success rate (usually memory related), and Lux Render keeps aborting my with reported syntax errors. I'm not an expert at this art form by any means, so I'm not up to speed on the jargon - but learning more week-by-week.
My computer (WinXP or Daz) reserves only 750MB of my 3GB available RAM for Daz during rendering. When it hits 1GB it crashes. I've tried Decimator, but it makes a mess of things. Are there ways to force more RAM usage or page filing? I know my computer has the resources, because when I get a successful Lux Render, (before the DS4.6 upgrade) I could have two or three renders going at once while still working on new camera angles and poses for my scenes.

Most Brycers use Large Address Aware to make it use more ram http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showthread.php?t=112556
Not sure if it would do you any good, but it is worth a try.
Win XP can only 'see' 2GB of RAM in the 32 bit version. (imposed by Microsoft)
If you Google '/3GB Switch' (without the quotes, you can find out how to get it to see 3GB of RAM, it may help.
Note that the /3GB switch works only for XP Pro, not for XP Home.
Thanks Richard, I didn't know that.
I saw an immediate and significant improvement in performance (loading times, fitting times, etc.) and it raised my render ceiling to about 1.3GB. Every little bit helps! I think it was worth the effort to download and install.
The 3GB switch, according to my information, works only with Windows 2000. I tried it on XP, but it caused some CTD's with other programs.
If you find the 1.3 Gb isn't enough you can always try rendering with the 3Delight standalone render engine. It is slower than rendering from within DAZ Studio, but it is less prone to crashes. I usually recommend it as a last result, if you can't get a render to finish without crashing.

The tutorial may be a bit dated, but it should still work.
