Seams in 3DL characters

Has anyone sorted out all of the causes of the obvious seams in like half of G8F's skins? You know, you load it straight from the library, but one or more seams are glaringly obvious in viewport and render, because some obscure setting is different in the adjacent materials? Sometimes it's the gamma on one of the specular channels, but other times it's something else and I can never run it down. It's maddening. It seems (haha) as likely to be something in my renderer as in the affected products, but many uninstalls/installs of various versions of DS has never cleared up the issue. It also persisted across my fresh install of Windows 10 and fresh install of DS on that drive, so I suppose it's not something wrong with old junk that wasn't being cleared out in simple uninstall/reinstall-or-upgrade, as someone once suggested to me.
Note, when I say "seams" I'm referring to borders between two materials that obviously have different settings, not the seams you sometimes see when shading rate isn't set correctly. This applies across the entire material, and is plainly visible in both the viewport and renders. Much like what is shown in the first post here:

It's not a lighting thing, I don't think; all I'm using ATM is the headlamp.

I've seen it on occasions accross generations, but it is a long way from half of G3F's skins, unless you only own a couple and have been unlucky.
The most likely culprit is Image Gamma; Normal maps, and less often specular maps can also be the cause. Very occasionally it is an error in one or other of the texture maps. File a report when you see it, and it is fixed.
