Problem with shaders (solved)

hesperasmithhesperasmith Posts: 52

I'm having a problem with IRay shaders that normally work fine and I can't work out what step I'm missing.

I imported an obj and set up surfaces on it using the surface editor, applied the IRay Uber Base to them all, now I'm trying to apply IRay materials to those surfaces, but not matter what I do they always come out in render looking like coloured plastic with no detail, despite the surface showing all the correct maps and settings as far as I can tell.

Does the object have a UV map?

  • Ah no it doesn't, is there any way I can create one?

You can take the obj file into a modeling program, like Blender, and create a UV map. There are also standalone UV mapping utilities that you could use. I have no personal experience with doing this, though, so I can't guide you through it.

    Edited for spelling.

  • Oh ok, well thanks for letting me know what the problem is.

  • Ok that wasn't the problem, I created and loaded in a UV map for it and it made no difference.

Can anyone else think of what the problem might be?

  • Ok I fixed it, finally, by using the Update Geometry from the copy I created with UVs, for some reason just importing the UVs straight to it didn't work.
