Problem when rendering in DS with SSS shader applied to the skin (SOLVED)

I do not know what is happening but here is the result that I get when rendering V6 in DS Pro 4.6 (the default skin materials have not been modified). I believe that it is because the SSS shader is applied to her skin because when I render characters that were released before her and before the SSS shader they render without any problem. But they render the same if I apply the SSS shader to them...
I believe that I am missing something...
Thank you very much for your help... :)

Ok what Shader?
What Skin?
What Lights?
What SSS settings?
And we shall presume DS4.6
- Skin: the default skin coming with V6
- the shader: I assume that the SSS shader is applied to the default skin since the ones without that shader are rendering correctly (I have not applied it myself since it is the default skin that loads with V6).
- Light: no special light since I have loaded V6 in the standard scene and that I have not created any light.
- It is effectively in DS 4.6 Pro and it is mentioned above.
Opps sorry early for me.
I don't have V6 but I think it now uses the New AOA shader base but it will state what the shader is in the Surfaces pane when one of the surfaces is selected, top left of the pane.
No Lighting, that might be the cause. I can't test it though with not having V6 or able to use DS4.6 with this new SSS shader base.
You do actually have the SSS shader installed? It's a separate item included with DS 4.6
Now that is a good queston Richard, thanks for asking it. :) I always assume to much. :)
Thank you very much for your reply, Szark and Richard.
To answer your question about the shader, it is installed since it was released and I have redownloaded and reinstalled it just in case it would have been updated or that something would have been corrupt. I have tried to render the same character with the same settings and I still get the same result.
I have also followed your suggestions, Szark but even if I add a light it does give the same result... I have also checked the shader used for V6 and it effectively is the new AoA shader which was already installed.
Now if I add a light (here I have added a default distant light) , nothing changes unless I decrease the render quality from 4 to 3. Here is the render that I get with the hardware assisted render option instead of 3Delight: the eyes are completely white and the quality is inferior to what I get with characters having no SSS shader applied to their skin:
Humm this is a good one...got me scratching my head.
I can't see it being your "Advanced" Render settings in the Advanced section of the render settings pane. But just to make sure can you post a screen of those Advanced settings please.
A huge thank you, Szark. :)
Here are two screenshot of the advanced render settings. They are just the default render settings... It is why I do not understand what is happening.
Nope everything looks good for a draft render. Just for refernce when doing final renders with these types of Skin shaders drop the shading rate to 0,20 for better quality.
But as to why this renders white I have no idea., sorry. I wish i had V6 to test myself. Hopefully another will have some advise.
Thank you so much for your interest and help. I definitely appreciate it. Also thank you for the tip about the shading rate. I will use it ...
I also hope that somebody else will have some suggestion. This white render is definitely very strange and it does not seem to happen to other people...
Thank you again for your help and kindness. :)
W.
No problem, read what is says in purple in my signature. :)
I am sorry I can't help to be honest.
Thanks again, Pete... ;)
Check the Ambient Color and Strength in the surfaces tab. Having those at white and ramped up can cause that. By default it's usually set to black and 0%, but since I don't have V6, I can't check the skin to see what her default is.
Hi
Post a screenshot of the shader parameters on one of the skin surface. It's as if you have an effect that has too much strenght, like 100% white ambiant
You could also try to put a light with very low intensity to see what you get
NM Missed a line again.
Thank you very much for your help and suggestions, Vaskania and Takeo.Kensei. I have tried what you have suggested but nothing seems to change when V6 is rendered. Here is a screenshot of the beginning of the shader and I can see that the ambient colour and strength are okay (black with 0% strength).
I definitely do not understand what is happening because it happens with the AoA/SSS shader only. The other skins render fine.
Sorry for my late reply to your posts (for which I thank you again) but I am not in the USA...
Thank you again for your help. I will perhaps try to reinstall DS and the shader to see if there is any improvement.
Can you do screens for the rest of the surface tab? It'll take a few screens to get them all. *points to scrollbar on the right side*
Something more directly facing the camera, like the face, may be a better surface to take samples from.
I am not sure that the issue is related to shader since it is the one coming with V6's skin but who knows?
Before posting the 7 screenshots I would like to know if it is permitted because it is not a personal shader...
Anyway the issue is the same with any character having the AoA shader applied to it...
Well if you have no lights and the only difference is the the Shafder. So begs the question is the shader installed correctly
Thanks Szark, I stitch them and I post them...
I believe that I do something wrong even if I have already uninstalled and reinstalled the AoA shader...
Ok lets step back a bit and go through the process.
Load V6 and render and she comes out white...correct? With no messing with the surface setting or loading any other shader, correct?
You always render using the 3Delight software render engine and not Hardware assisted and she still comes out white?
Normally when I see a "whiteout" like that it means only one thing, a missing or out of date shader .SDL file, but as this is AoA's shader we are talking about, then there wont be one as this is a Shader Mixer shader.
First thing to check is that the SM is actually working, so go "Help > About Installed Plugins" and look for Shader Mixer Base, it should be near the bottom of the list, a green icon next to it means it's working.
That is what I was heading toward Bejaymac as I have seen this on old shaders myself before too.
I also believe that something must be wrong with the shader because the same happens to all the characters having AoA applied to their skin... I have checked and Shader Mixer Base is installed and working (I see the green icon for all the plugins).
The shader:
Edited to remove the shader images
I have downloaded and installed these free DS shaders using the free SSS shader base:
http://dawaterrat.deviantart.com/art/DWR-Exalted-Shaders-376284558
I have applied one of them to Genesis (just to see how it is rendering) and it renders like the first render posted in this thread: completely white...
I have even reinstalled DS 4.6 pro (installer) and the SSS shader base (via DIM) but the SSS shader does not work as it should...
Just a question: is there anything to do after having applied a shader using the SSS base? I do not understand any more...
Could the issue be related to some wrong option selected in the render settings or in the preferences?
The shader parameters seem OK to me. The only thing I find strange is the "Outline Depth" that I don't have. Does anybody else have it with the SSS base shader?
@Wilfred : have to dig further !
Open up a clean scene, load V6, render at Quality 4
Then Click Help->Troubleshooting->View Log file It will open up DS Logfile
Press simultaneously CTRL+END or navigate to the end of the file
Begining from the end and navigating up, search for a line , where it is written" Loaded file: something V6.duf" (sorry I don't have it so I don't know the exact name)
From this line, copy and paste here so we can see if anything is going wrong from loading V6 to rendering
Here is the part of the log file that you have asked. Thank you for your help and for having a look into it... :)

I had a strange issue because when I clicked the troubleshooting-log file to open it I got a "access refused" warning.
I went to the appdata folder where I have found the log file and I was obligated to unlock it and to delete it. Then it was rebuilt wheh restarting DS and I was able to open it in a text editor after having rendered V6 again... Very odd.
Yep we clearly see the problem here
As you wrote it it seems you have permission problems or something is preventing DS to create compiled version of the shader before rendering. As DS can't create the shader, it is replaced with the default shader with whatever parameters in it resulting in a white skin
Instead of having
3Delight message #45 (Severity 2): S2050: cannot find shader ‘brickyard/{407f8e5c-3a9b-4708-b5e5-799ff1fe7c1d}/shader_Surface’, will use ‘defaultsurface’
3Delight message #45 (Severity 2): S2050: cannot find shader ‘brickyard/{407f8e5c-3a9b-4708-b5e5-799ff1fe7c1d}/shader_Displacement’, will use ‘null’
You should have something like
Compiled C:\Users\Utilisateur\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\Studio4/shaders/{407f8e5c-3a9b-4708-b5e5-799ff1fe7c1d}/shader_Surface.sdl...
So go to C:\Users\Utilisateur\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\Studio4/shaders and check if you have a subdirectory named "brickyard" and that 'everyone' has the right to write in the directory
[EDIT] After thinking a bit, your problem could also be related to Windows protection. So you may also try to run DS with elevated rights by doing Right Click->Run as Administrator on DS , then try to load V6 and render to see if the problem arise or not
A very BIG 'thank you' to all of you for your help.
Thank you very much to you, Takeo.Kensei because your suggestions worked. I have first tried to unlock the shaders folder though it did not seem to be locked. I tried to render V6 I was told that DS could not render the image because there was an error.
I then tried to launch DS with administrator rights and it worked immediately. I am now able to render the skins having the AoA shader applied to them when starting DS 4.6 Pro with or without Administrator rights. I believe that launching it with Admin rights achieved to unlock everything or that it created the adequate brickyard folder if it was missing.
The render just below is not a good render but I post it to show you that it works now... :)
Thank you very, very much for all the help provided because I am happy to say that the issue is now fixed.
Thank you again to all of you and have a great day. I am going to add "solved" to the thread even if I will come back to check the posts tomorrow. :)
