Eye missing a ring?

I have never seen this before and it's really gumming up my renders! It must be something I did, but I can't figure it out. I've tried smoothing modifiers, I've tried applying new mats and shaders, I've tried NO mats or shaders. I made sure everything in the scene was visible... I've tried everything.
Anyone know what's up?

Looks like there's a transmap somewhere, but if you've changed mats repeatedly, I don't know how something like that could stick around.
Yeah it's strange. I loaded a new version of the same character and the issue is gone, but if I try to move the char to the same pose using copy the issue pops up, so it's definitely a setting issue somewhere.
I wonder if it's an issue with the pose. Does it happen with other poses?
There are black rings on several of the iris bump and displacement maps that if mapped to transparency would probably cause that.
