Content Cataloger for Windows

This looks like a really useful product
http://www.daz3d.com/new-releases/content-cataloger-for-windows
Does this vendor have some kind of combersome registering process? I'm sure I've seen some comments about problems registering.
Comments
Winterbrose has a demo available here: Content Cataloger for Windows Demo.
You can see the registration screen at startup.
Thanks, will check that out.
shame that it will not work in windows 7 x64 generates an error when entering the activation code
I don't have this program, but that error is from the Microsoft .NET framework.
If you download and install the latest version of .NET it may well fix the error.
Well it was a nice idea but it doesn't seem to work properly on my machine so I'll be giving it a miss. This is what it generated when I had it make a catalogue of my "Curious" collection. Also firefox can't open any of the links created.
ETA the links work better in IE but still not all the images display. The file names are not the names of the actual content folder but a part within the folder. However the links do work to open the content folder. Filtering by prefix makes not difference.
Try to install it somewhere else than in the "Program Files (x86)" folder (e.g. in the "ProgramData" folder (usually hidden)).
Vista and later versions of Windows require special permissions to write to the "Program Files" folders which causes some programs to malfunction if you install them there.
I bought this four months ago from WB and I had the same problem installing on Win 7 x64. I have the latest NET version as well. I tried everything such as switching off anti-virus and giving full admin rights which I have with Win 7 already. I still can't get it to work. It installed perfectly fine on my Win XP PC unfortunately I don't use DAZ on it.
I've got Adobe, Sony, DAZ, Newtek, Autodeck and numerous other software installed fine on my Win 7 PC. Never a problem. So it's a real PITA when something this small causes such a problem. So I agree, try the demo first if you have Win 7 x64.
Reguardless of .net, people who write software should know what is necessary to make their code run. .net is of course microsoft and it will break itself even after it is working.
I'm not going to guess which piece of .net i need to get.

my task is to buy software, if it needs fixing then the programmer needs to fix it. I'm sure there will be a lot more that don't run properly.

I can't even get the program to run on Win 7 x64. It crashes before I can even assign a program directory. When a programmer tells you to reinstall your NET framework just to get their program to work you can bet it's a fault with their programming and they're not prepared to fix it or don't know how to.
I was not impressed with their last tool "object group" optimizer or whatever. It does nothing IMO. Thanks for the warning on this winner.
Ok, I did a little research about this NET issue. Apparently only NET 4 shows up in the Win 7 x64 programs list. NET 3.5 SP1, NET 3 & NET 2 are all installed with Win 7 x64. That's why they don't appear in the programs list.
So if NET 4 Client and Extended are both in the programs list then the full NET 4 has been installed. But how do you check if NET 4 has installed correctly and that NET 2, 3 and 3.5 are installed correctly? Use a verification tool:
netfx_setupverifier_new
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/10/13/8999004.aspx
I downloaded this tool, ran it and all versions of the NET framework are installed correctly on my system. In case they aren't more info from this thread:
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/35d348e5-192e-4fa2-a45a-c1c2175ce111/net-framework-35-sp1-installation-problems-on-windows-7-x64
If Content Cataloger isn't working due to problems with the NET framework I'd like to know what they are because I have verified that I have a fully installed and working NET framework on my system.
Here's an overview of what versions of .NET that are installed per default in the different Windows versions, and which ones you may need to install to make a program work (which again depends on which .NET version the program requires).

Thanks! By sharing information perhaps we DAZ users might eventually be able to work out why this product is causing problems. It appears such a useful tool that I'd love to get it to work so I hope the developer replies to this thread at some point.
Seems like a useful tool but I too am getting the same error and have all the current and past NET framework.
If anyone has bought this from DAZ and is having problems installing it on Win7 x64 would they please submit a support ticket? I bought mine directly from the Winterbrose website so I don't think DAZ will support this.
Odd, I have Win7 64bit and the demo works fine.
If I have enough on my PP account I will purchase it :D
Accidently ran across this thread and I was really disturbed by some short-comings; please accept our apologies for any problems anyone may have encountered. The current release is version 2.18.
I will attempt to address most (if not all) of the issues:
Win7 x64: Content-Cataloger does run successfully on Win7 x64. Please check out screenshot1 below. We test our software on WinXP (32-bit), Win7 (32-bit), Win7 (64-bit) and Win8 platforms on different machines before release. In almost all cases, we have a freely available Demo so users can ensure system compatability before spending any money.
.NET Framework: We try to make sure everyone knows they need .NET Framework with all the Windows updates. We publish any prerequisites needed to ensure the apps function properly when installed. When we say "all" updates, we mean ALL updates; even those annoying security updates which never seem to end. We took screenshot2 of the Win7 x64 updates from one of our testing systems.
Firefox: Initially their were some compatability issues with the FIrefox browser. The blank images and missing links were due to the browser not recognizing the same html code IE and Chrome would process properly, This issue was fixed but another issue arised where Firefox would run indefinitely or even crash. This was caused by users creating catalogs that consisted of a large number of huge image files (ie 5+ megapixels) which is a Firefox shortcoming because it cannot manage memory in a manner that can handle that huge of a webpage. We just released an app called "All Thumbs" to help with this by mass producing thumbnail images for any folder/directory. You can find it on this thread: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/27148/
Activation and Registration: Quite honestly, I don't like having to use both processes when Product Activation with a Key should suffice. However, Daz Productions and other Brokers/Resellers refuse to disclose the contact information for who has been issued which keys. This has put us at a great disadvantage in a legal sense. Because of this, we have also implemented the Registration Process requiring a code issued directly from Winterbrose. The application is fully functional after you enter the Activation Key, but that annoying Registration screen pops up each time you run the app until you have registered the product with us. Sorry, but that was the best solution we could come up with at the time. If anyone has something better in mind, please let us know so we can consider it.
Lost track of everything I read so I will stop here for now. Thanks for your time and patience.
When I changed over to my current computer a couple years ago there was one program that refused to run because of .NET Framework. After literally a month of email back and forth with CS I finally gave up. I cringe every time a see a program that requires it.
I tried the Demo but in the end it just didn't want to run on my machine (Which admittedly is a bit old by computer standards) but thank you for taking the time to address the issue.
PROCEDURES for "Activation" and "Registration" of Winterbrose Software Products Sold by DAZ3D
For purposes of explaining this process, we will refer to our Content-Cataloger app.
To demonstrate how things work at DAZ3D for customer purchases of any "keyed" item
like Content-Cataloger or even DAZ Studio, I purchased a copy of our own product to
create the visual aids included (no refund will be neceassary).
1. A customer of DAZ successfully purchases the product Content-Cataloger for Windows (16755).
SEE Attachment1.jpg
2. The download will appear in that customer's DAZ Account (My Account) under Product Library.
SEE Attachment2.jpg
3. The issued activation key (called a serial number by DAZ3D) will appear in the list of
issued Serial Numbers in the custoemr's DAZ Account (My Account) under Serial Numbers.
SEE Attachment3.jpg
4. The first time the customer runs Content-Cataloger they will be prompted to enter their
issued Product Activation Key (this is the serial number from step 3). Once activated,
all features of the product are enabled and it is fully functional.
SEE Attachment4.jpg
5. After the product features are fully activated, the user will be prompted to Register the
product with the manufacturer every time they use it until they complete the registration
process and receive a Registration Code via email from Winterbrose.

Has this product been Updated to work correctly/more easily?
..........Or is this a totally new product??? Sorry if this is a newb question. :red:
Have the problems been resolved...?
Daz is saying "NEW" product........ but I'm finding several years old threads about it.......
http://www.daz3d.com/content-cataloger-easy-ccez-for-windows-daz-studio-edition
It says, "NEW".
Is this right.....? :coolhmm:
Yes, it is a New product.
The only "real" problem with previous versions was that it was too technical and targeted toward higher-level audience.
There is a topic post for this which DAZ should be re-opening soon since it is now released.
You can check it out on YouTube here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=td_2kppsABU&feature=youtu.be
I see that the main problem was that Windows updates needed to be met.
I guess many people didn't know how to do that manually (the technical learning curve is pretty steep for 3D).
Is there any difference between this product and the old product in functionality?
Thanks for the video link, btw.
CCEZ is geared more toward "finding" an asset you know you have installed, whereas CCPro was geared more toward cataloging.
And thus we have a new error. (Please see attached screenshot.)
No matter what setting I have it on, the error happens on the same item sponge.png in my DAZ3D folder.
I registered everything just fine without hiccup.
I'm running Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit.
You say you tried all the settings. I see you changed the HTML page size to "no size limit". So, you did have the same problem with the default setting?
Do you know if the image file "sponge.png" is corrupt or unreadable? (ie can you open it with an image editor like paint)
Do you have adequate system memory and available storage?
To answer each question in order - yes, I tried each setting starting with the default. When it threw up the error the first time, I tried the next setting of 1000, then the next of unlimited, each time getting the same error on the same image.
I can open sponge.png in Photoshop without a problem. It's part of the DAZ Horse 2 pro bundle I purchased not too long ago. So its an official product from the DAZ store.
And yes, I have plenty of system memory and available storage. I haven't been using DAZ for very long so I don't think my catalogue is as extensive as most folks might have.
When I changed the catalogue directory from the default public folder to my DAZ3D user folder (see attached screenshot) it worked. It just doesn't like the Public folder where a majority of the DAZ stuff is. I'm the only user on this computer and I install everything DAZ related to its default settings using the DIM. The browser I'm using is Chrome. Like I said, it worked on my user folder, just not the default public folder.
Sorry you are experiencing problems.
So if I understand you correctly, CCEZ only malfunctions when you use the default search folder as:
"C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library"
Even though you may be an admin user on the pc, have you tried starting CCEZ using the Run As Administrator option?
Two additional items to check:
- Ensure you have all the Microsoft .NET framework updates for Windows
- Even though "sponge.png" was displayed, it may be that another file within the library is corrupt
