Confusing content behaviour with G2F

Just a quick question: What the heck is with G2F automatically parenting EVERYTHING that
would normally be a conforming item (ie: Hair, Clothing) to the G2F figure?!

Now: How do I make it stop, please?

Thanks in advance!

I haven't noticed it doing that with clothing, but definitely with hair. You add the hair and then want to select the colour, and you can't find the hair so you have to click on it to see where it's hiding. Annoying. If you do NOT select G2F before you double click the hair, it will still load on her head, but then you have to go the extra step to "fit to", otherwise she moves and the hair doesn't. Or if she's already posed, it just goes where she would have been. I notice that all the "fit to" now have a tick box option for "parent" so I suspect it's a deliberate move to simplify that step in the first place. Just my guess.

For stuff that doesn't auto-fit you can turn the parent option off in the Fit to dialogue, but for items that are set to fit on load I don't think there is a way to turn it off other than, presumably, loading, unparenting and saving out again (as a wearable preset)

The latest version of DS4.6 changed the way parenting was handled with Genesis figures. In the past if you parented a conforming item to Genesis it would create problems. This is no longer the case. Studio has built in features that can take advantage of the Parent/Child relationship of Genesis or G2F and it's conforming clothing. Things like Hierarchical Material(s) Presets, Hierarchical Pose Presets, Wearable Presets all rely on a Parent/Child relationship. In the new version of DSON there is an option in the .dsf file to set a conforming item to parent on load. This is becoming the new standard so that artists can distribute the presets described above without worrying whether or not the user has the proper hierarchy set up.

This only functions in DS correct? The only things I want to parent on load in Poser are smart props.

Oy. It's annoying. Is there a way to turn it off, Jared? What if....I don't -want- everything parented to the G2F figure!? That's what I'm getting at.
I'm not using Poser, I'm using DS4.6.x Pro.

The Poser question was for Jared.

I know. I wanted to make sure he knows I'm using DS, in this case, not poser--and I don't
want stuff loading up parented, either (except for smart props), either! I'm with you on that!

No problem. Everything parenting to the figure must be blasted annoying.

VERY annoying. I go looking for something to apply a texture to it, and then I have to try and figure out where the heck
it parented itself--then UNparent the darn thing, and go about my business! All this extra work is really steering me
away from liking G2F as much as I might otherwise find it useful--and I rarely gripe about stuff, but this one's making
    me quite vexatious!

Select the figure it is conformed to. In the surfaces tab are all the content that is conformed to that figure. Pick the one you want and apply your material preset.

    @icprncss - No, I don't think items auto-parent in Poser.
@AnIronButterfly - If you leave G2F unselected when you load the clothing in most clothing will still auto-conform (it relies on the metadata) but it won't autoparent. If it doesn't auto-conform you will need to go into the Parameters tab and look under the Misc. section and fit the clothing to G2F. The dialogue box will ask you if you want to parent as well, so make sure that option is unchecked.

OK, that'll work! Thanks, Jared, Bruce!
