Your image files - .jpgs and so on - need to be converted to .tdl files for 3Delight. That format has several different sizes, so that the renderrer isn't handling more data than is needed for the current render resolution. As long as it doesn't hang entirely (which can happen) it's a necessary process.

I'm having this problem too. Now, is there a way to turn the process off, at least temporary, since it takes a lot of time. I mean for me it even optimizes some 100 images for a small spot render, where I'm just interested in checking a bump map or how a shadow falls.

Nope, it's required to be able to render. However, as long as you have sufficient room in your temp folder you shouldn't have to do it more than once for a given scene during a given session of DS. (Your temp folder is cleaned out when you do File > New or File > Open or close/restart DS).

    >.> The LIE files get changed to bmp's. I've snagged those for a character or two, pop them into a place where I can find them.

It turned out I cannot use the 'layered imge editor' if I have complex scenes or SSS textures in a render. That's when the optimizer flips and keeps on running for hours without getting anywhere. I'm not sure if it's a runtime problem or a DAZ error but I worked around it simply by creating a new texture 'the hard way' by making a hard copy in photoshop rather than the 'soft' solution with the LIE.

So lucynsky et al were on the right track so to say

Reality 2.0 has/had a strange habit of not liking the LIE files, so I had to go find the proper file.

But I loves me some LIE files.

Hmm, let me see if I can duplicate that. I have tons of very complex scenes, but not many with SSS Texutres and LIE on an SSS surface.

I can definitely apply LIE layers to SSS surfaces and render without issue.
