Hi to everyone,
I'm writing because I'm experiencing a bad render result for the Akira Hair for G3. I'm using 3Delight as graphic engine and, to be honest, I didn't apply any strange parameters.
I attached a couple of screenshots of the result and the parameters used for the rendering.
As you can see each time I render the scene, I have these strange blue and red signs on the image. I tryed with IRay and is working fine.
If someone has an idea, please let me know.
Thanks and regards,
Ennio

That looks like the result of having mapped shadows on oen or more of your lights - select and lights that are casting shadows and make sure theya re set to use Ray Traced Shadows.
Thanks for the suggestion, I will try that as soon as I'll be back home
This is especially important for any Distant Lights or Point Lights. 3Delight uses a fixed size for it's generated shadow map images. What you will find with a Distant Light is that because the shadow map has to stretch across the entire scene, the resolution of the image is too blocky to handle the finer details of things like transparency mapped hairs. The same thing happens with a point light where the shadowmap has to be wrapped around the sphere of light cast from a point light. Deep Shadow maps normally work okay for spotlights, but as a rule, I would only use them if you find that raytraced shadows are so slow on your PC that they aren't feasible for all of your lights.
Also note there are alternatives to the standard DS lights, the dz shader lights ship free with DS, you'll find them in your content library/light presets/DZ lights or something along those lines;) IMO the shadows look better than standard lights (There's the dz distant light, dz spotlight and dz pointlight). Another advantage is you can set shadow samples independently for each light in parameter/light! (Meaning that the shadow samples value in render settings is overwritten)
Hi to everyone,
you were right guys! The problem was the shadow!
I tryed to apply the following tricks:
1) Set the "Shadow Type" of the lights to "Raytraced (Software Only)"... but it was taking the whole day to rendering (so I stopped it). The problem here is because there are 99 points of lights, so I think it's using a lot of GPU and CPU resources (just the hairs because the rest of the scene was rendered quickly).
2) I tryed "Deep shadow map" as well, but didn't fix the issue
3) I found the "Light Presets" as suggested by Sven, but I need to study the topics
Finally I solved by disabling the option "Cast shadow" of the hair. I know, is too easy, but for my purpose is enought!
I promise, I will study how to use the lights asap! Thanks for your help guys!
See you for the next question :-)
Cheers
