I"m want to model in Maya, to make clothes

I do want to do it in the cheat way, meaning using the model mesh to build off on

But I haven't seen any tutorials for modeling clothes in that that way, but I know it's possible. I saw a Zbrush version of it

Moved to the Commons because it was not a Hexagon question.

I can't help you with Maya, but I can help you to possibly avoid future legal troubles.

I'd model from those instead of Daz's actual figure mesh. Whatever you make from those you are free to sell or distribute as you wish. They are good quality. I've actually taken one, whole, and rigged it as a full head to toe body suit for my own use.

First off, thanks for the link to those they look handy.

Secondly, I just want to make sure I'm understanding everything correctly. I know if I take a Daz or other PA's product, export it to .obj and then modify that in a modeling program that I can't really use that for anything but my own use (a little gray about whether I can even put the render out for public consumption so I would just assume not to be safe). However, if I export Genesis or another figure out and then use it as a model to build my own product from scratch that is ok right? As long as I don't include any polys from the original mesh.

Since that seems to be the method all of the tutorials use I assume it's ok to do things that way but I like to be sure.

I had initially assumed that's what the OP was talking about as well but, I can see how it could also be read as exporting a clothing mesh to Maya and modifying that, which isn't legal.

Edit to add: For the OP. Fugazi has a couple of good tutorials covering the basics of modeling clothing and getting it into DS and rigged in his store (http://www.daz3d.com/fugazi1968) you might also try a Google or Youtube search for modeling clothing for Daz there are several out there. Most use either Hexagon or Blender but the concepts are the same so can be applied to Maya. This of course assumes you know how to actually model in Maya and since you have it I assume you can.

That is correct. As long as the product doesn't include any of the original mesh you will be fine. If you use some portion of the original mesh you can only use it for personal use.

I strongly recommend reviewing the terms of use section of the EULA to determine what you can and cannot do. The EULA is a legal document. I am not an attorney, nor are any of the users in this forum (to my knowledge). This means no one here has a license to practice law or to give legal advice. The safest thing to do would be to consult an attorney if you have questions about the EULA. However, the section on the terms of use is about as straight forward as you can get with a legal document.

    Here is the link: http://www.daz3d.com/eula

Terms of use is in Section E. I think sub paragraphs 1 and 2 are relevant here.
