iray keeps ignoring my scene lights

Hi folks,

Im pretty new to the software and this might be a noob question. But I couldn't find any sollution in the forums or in the internet in general. Problem is just as the title says, iray ignores my scene lights completely. And this is pretty worthless as you can imagine. So there must be a simple hit of a button somewhere to fix this.

And to confuse me even more, when rendered in interactive mode, the final image has all the lights that I setup. But Im missing out on a lot of detail that way.

Image removed due to nudity.   see this thread https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/3279/acceptable-ways-of-handling-nudity#latest

and now hit me, but be nice, thanks ;o)

Look in the Render Setting under Environment and check Environment Mode is set to Scene Only. If the dome is on, it'll blow out your scene lights.

If that's the solution, and you then find your render is too dark, go to Tone Mapping and set Exposure Value to something lower. You'll have to experiment, but try 8.00 or 6.00 and se how it looks. (This is far easier than ramping up the power of every light)

Edit - Also, if you created a camera, check in the setings and make sure Headlamp is set to Off

  • hey maclean, thanks for the reply. But as you can see in the rendersettings I posted (well if you click on it and zoom in) you can see that the settings are already scene only and the exposure is already set to 6. I tried the headlamp-thing but there is no difference between off and auto, as auto should turn it off when there are lights in my scene.

So no difference in the final render yet

Did you use Photometric (i.e. Iray) lights?

Try increasing the Lumen Setting of your lights. The standard of 1.500 is way to low for Iray to see something in the scene.

Start with something like 50.000 and don't be shy in increasing the value. A light a bit away from the scene can easily have values of a couple of hundred thousands.

This is probably the most common thing ppl. expierence when starting with lights in Iray.

Keep Exposure Value and Shutter Speed at default for the start.

    Kind regards, Eagle99

...and ...  nice Logo you have ... guess where my name comes from ...  :)

  • Hi eagle99,

thanks for trying to help me. Changing the lumen of my lights doesn't change a single bit in my renders. Even values of 500.000.

as the image shows, my lights are there and they are working. Just not in photoreal iray render mode. There must be something else I haven't noticed yet.

thanks for everybody looking into that problem though.

and the world seems to be a small place, eagle99 ;)

  • Ok guys, Im sorry,

for some reason the problem is gone. All I did was creating the scene completely new and the rendering works fine. The lighting is correct now.

    thanks for everybodies help
