Questions about installing

Hi,

I've reinstalled Daz beause all smart content was gone and the content folder was empty, I still had files in the other folders but it was a mess. No idea how that happened. It never worked as it should have anyway.
First I had installed 64 bit, bought V4.2 and it crashed. so I installed 32 bit, that worked untill today.

So I cleaned everything I could find, even the registry.

reinstalled 32 bit and used all the default dirs
reinstalled download manager and it didn''t even ask anything this time, used it to download and install everything from DAZpro and my purchases.

The directory's seem different then the first time, I also have a bit more smart content

So, Is this a correct installation? Anything I need to do before I start using it? (below are my dirs)

I've had DAZ for more than a week and it's been fun but also a bit frustrating. trouble with account, content and crashing
If I can recover just the lights of the scene I've been working on for the past 2 days, I'd be happy.
I read alot of posts and guides but i'm not sure anymore.
Thank you!

Did you have DIM set to DAZ Studio 4.6 and to DAZ Studio 4.0 or DAZ Studio 3 also? For DIM to work the best you should have it set to only download the files for the version you are using. That way ALL the files, including the Scripts, go into just the ONE folder.

Here is My DIM set for DS4.6, my Content Directory Manager set to the one Folder, and my, rather large folder.

ok, tried a new installation again to get it all in 1 dir...

When I install Daz puts :

    C:\Users\Mario\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library
during the installation, and thats also the folder i can see when I open the Contenet directory manager, so before i download any content there is only one dir (not the same as yours i see) can't change it

Then the downloader wants to put everything in the other dir, i can add C:\Users\Mario\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library
but it gives me a warning, if i choose it anyway, it doesn't work afther installing the essentials

It's the wrong dir anyway i guess.

i've been trying for 12 hours now, reading, installing and uninstalling and trying different things.

I'm not sure Why your content is not in JUST the one My DAZ 3D Library folder as mine is. All I did was change the Content Directory Manager paths to use My DAZ 3D Library and EVERY thing works. I only use DIM and you see what Mine is set to. I wish I could help you but You see my set up. It works and everything installs and is working in my DAZ Studio 4.6.

    Hi again,

    Thanks for your help,
I have changed the directory in Daz from
    C:\Users\Mario\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library\
    to
    C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library

It's now the same as yours

But i'm still wondering about the files in that old directory, the scripts

    C:\Users\Mario\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library\Scripts\Utilities
    Add Levels of Detail.dse
    Morphforms to Transforms.dse
    PowerLoader Developer.dse
    SnapParent.dsb

Can you tell me where those files are on your pc?

    Thank you

ps. Most of my confusion comes from the help files that seem to suggest the 'My Library' is the correct content directory and not
    the 'My DAZ 3D Library'

well, it worked for 5 minutes, i tried to load the scene I had backed up on another drive, it loaded, but i lost all my smart content again
it's like the path changes when i load a scene from somewhere else then the default. That must have been the problem in the first place. I decided to place the scene i was happy with in a new folder, afther that I lost all smart content..

eveything I bought seems to work in the content library pane, V6, new morphs...
except categories and product tabs, those are empty again

Could be there's a conflict happening ... I think after doing a drastic reinstall of everything; one has to set up the scenes from scratch again. Some files record tons of information and would be trying to set up each figure's contents 'the way it was' when the figures were saved.

but also, you cannot move files around like we could do before SC existed.

When stuff is installed the metadata has all the "where it's at" info ... so if we move the files, it can no longer find them. One could remake the metadata I suppose but it's a lot less work just to leave things where they install to.

Categories and Product Tabs are also SC related ... SC needs to be running.

"My Library" is what is was/should be for D/S4.0 - D/S4.5 as far as I know. I install things manually.

Sounds like the CMS (Content Management Service) crashed out and stopped.
You can Fix the Script Folder by just copying the Folder and Pasting it into the My DAZ 3D Library. The CMS issue could be many things, including your AV or Firewall shutting it down as a not allowed service.

    thanks!

I added DAZStudio.exe and ContentManagementServer.exe to firewall and realtime antivirus trusted programs.
    Smart content works now :)

All the time i was thinking it was because I installed Daz in the wrong directory or something, I didn't think it was the firewall because sometimes it worked (for part of the content).

Now that it works completely I see lots of smart content that wasn't there before.

Thanks again for your patience and help.
