Luxus and SpotLight

Hello dear all,

I am not quite sure where to put this question so I will simply put it here.

I used a single SpotLight for the following scene and rendered it both with 3Delight and with Luxus. While in 3Delight the light looks very good in Luxus the light is too strong. And I cannot turn the intensity down. Even if I turn the intensity of the light to 0.01 it doesn't change anything. Put a pane between the light and the scene doesn't change anything either.

Can anyone give me some tips on how to work on this?

Also, is there a tutorial on how to use LuxRender for DAZ Studio scenes? What need to be done and how and such things?

Thank you very much for the help.

Greetings
P.

You need to adjust the tonemapping settings. However, keep in mind that in LuxRender, spotlights are rather evil, since they are non-physical entities. You will get MUCH more natural looking lighting if you use a mesh light instead. If you need the cone of a spotlight, use a spotlight IES file with the mesh light. It will still look 100x better than using a spotlight.

In Render Settings for Luxus, change 'Tone Mapping Kernel' from 'Autolinear' to 'Linear.'

    Hello,

thank you both very much for the answers. And sorry for me being such a noob. But what is a mesh light and how do I create one. Until now I either used lights that come with props or scenes or I used light from the "Add a light" in DAZ Studio Light and Cameras.

    Greetings

There is 'Area Lights' and 'Area Light and Sky2' that are part of the Luxus Content package. You can find them on the Lights tab or under Lights in Smart Content.

Alternatively, you can create your own by selecting any surface (create a plane primitive or use any surface you want.) Just select the surface on the Surface tab. Right-Click on the Surface tab and select 'Luxus - LuxRender Material.' Choose the material type you want (you can choose Null if it's just a light and doesn't need textures) and check 'Light Parameters' then click Ok. In the surface settings, scroll down to 'LuxRender Light - Enable' and turn the light on.

If you use the LuxRender GUI, you can use the 'Light Groups' tab in LuxRender to adjust the intensity of all the lights in the scene.
