Actually, yes. There are flags for level content for images so people won't see things they don't want to. We're still solidifying what to call them (we're thinking of either "Family Safe", "Not Family Safe", "Adult Only" or "G", "PG", "PG-13", "R", "X", so details like that are still being finalized).

We don't have a time frame when its gonna happen but it is going to happen.

It is coming soon. We're pushing really hard on the web side to finish it up and we're starting beta testing this week. Depending on how that goes and when we can fit it in the marketing calendar, as I don't want its launch to interfere with any of our PAs big releases that are in the works, it might be as early as this month, maybe into next. We aren't going to release a half functional or broken gallery system that doesn't have enough infrastructure behind or not properly functionally and load tested to where it crashes when around only a trickle of real traffic hits it like we've seen happen with other systems and sites both here and elsewhere in this industry.

On the other topic at hand... what can Daz do to help this community keep this forum a place that you guys want it to be? And if you guys wanted additional moderators for this particular forum to make sure that it keeps the tone you want, who would they be?

    Hello Jon,
it's great to read this information. If you don't mind a little input regarding the ratings for mature content, the old TOS banned full frontal nudity. Breasts/Chests were okay, as well as buttocks if I recall correctly. Genitals were banned and sex acts were banned. So in my opinion, ratings such as, "X," would probably convey the wrong impression about the image. What the old forums had were filters for Violence, Nudity, Controversial, etc. I think those seem like pretty informative, yet neutral names for them. You could even choose multiple filters and I believe the tags were displayed.

You could also tag and filter threads and individual posts that way. So, let's say someone has a rant about something, they could tag the thread as controversial. If people didn't want to see threads with that tag, then they could set their filter to not display those. The same with posts within a thread that were tagged also wouldn't display. I actually miss that system, as it allowed for some self moderation on the part of the poster, by making him or her think about what they were saying, and choosing an appropriate tag, and on the part of the reader, in that if someone wanted to just come here and get help or share tips, then they could just set their filter to ignore controversial threads, or threads with nudity. Of course, the weakness was that you could post without any tags selected and if it contained imagery that the TOS deemed tag-worthy for nudity, the thread/post could be moderated or removed.

That's all fine and good but it don't stop people from attacking on another which is what the Carrara forums have turned into. It not only hurt moral of the members but it scares off new users how would like to gather info. If all they see is people attacking one another then they won't post and in turns learn.

True enough. But my main gist was about bringing back the tags. It would help with a certain level of self moderation. I knew for my part, when posting an image I would stop and think if it was controversial or followed the TOS regarding the nudity tag.

As to the crap that flies around, everybody is guilty of something. Even the mods. ;-) However, some are worse than others, and this is what has caused the issues.

BTW, DAZ, please get the new forums working. I've never had the level of cookie and log-in frustration I've had recently. Never mind. Arg.

Forums are forums. There's a certain level of angst and hurtfulness that happens no matter the venue. I've come to accept it, I don't like it, but every forum I'm involved in (and there are many) involves blowups. So do interpersonal relationships of all sorts. The policy I use is to remove the worst and ignore the rest, as you'd do in conversation. Some forget that context isn't available when typing, and others forget that emotional cues simply aren't available on either side of the conversation. Be generous to each other. But what do I know.

My $0.02 worth here -- I think those ratings are needlessly complicated. After all, one person's "PG-13" would be another person's "R." I think it can be simplified with just two flags - "Contains Nudity" and "Contains Violence." If both flags are off, the image should be safe viewing for anybody.

I'm glad Dart is staying. He's definitely one reason why I keep coming back.

Even if they are tagged controversial if they break the TOS they break the TOS and we have to act on it. If anyone is having issues with the posting behavior of certain individuals or are being attacked we plead that you guys report the issue. As I said earlier in the thread. We try to read every post made in a day but things do slip by and we need it brought to our attention as soon as it's posted.

As I said earlier in the thread, the gist isn't about the latest go 'round! I never said a controversial tag was a means to violate the TOS. Since DAZ Jon posted here with the possible filters for the galley, I thought I'd put in my $0.02 worth. I don't have a direct line to the honchos at DAZ, so I'm taking advantage of it while I can!

To be clear (again), this is not about the latest hoohah, it's about having a DAZ honcho talking about changes to the site and listing some of those. It's about me as a customer and user, taking advantage of temporarily having said ear to make a suggestion or two, and explain why I think they're valid suggestions. DAZ Jon is the only one posting at the moment who knows what value they have, or how easy or difficult they are to implement. It just so happens he posted in this thread which is a result of all the hoohah, so I'm taking advantage of it.

    Fair Deuce.

I agree with you, no need to make the system overly complicated imo. The old flags, for Nudity, Controversial, Profanity, Violence and Commercial worked well for quite a few years. Everyone seemed to understand them (mostly)

I actually like the nudity tag. If Michelangelo tried to post an image of David, he couldn't. Well, maybe that's a bad example due to the genitals, but you get my point. In no way is David pornographic, just as not all renders showing breasts are pornographic. Hell, why add rigging to Genesis' pectorals if not for breast floppage? :gulp: ;-)

The nudity tag not being there is one of the biggest problems we see. A lot of images are now filtered out because of the slighted bit of nudity. I will be nice to get them back.

I do so agree. It is very difficult to have a nude male without the additional bits, even if it is only meant to be a statue, unlike a female nude statue, which only needs a morph to look right.

I think that "“Family Safe”, “Not Family Safe”, “Adult Only”" fits well but beyond that I feel would be a bit much. How many people would want to filter out PG-13 while keeping PG? Only thing I can imagine needing extra classification is a split between violence and nudity, people were pretty up in arms (and legs, torsos, heads) over Ron's severed human and quite a few of them expressed being fine with nudity. The ratings given were probably just examples but I figured I'd mention that anyway

It's a delicate balance with the violence tags. There isn't much we can do on the forum side when the store releases a violant looking pack. All we can do is contain it to a single thread which seems to work

  • evilproducerevilproducer Posts: 9,050

I've always felt that in most circumstances the act of violence is best left off camera in video and film. It adds to the suspense. Unless it's a zombie flick, then the more gore the better. ;-) Still images are more problematic. I prefer to show the after effects or prior to the violent act. To show the violence is just reveling in it. Note the prior zombie exclusion!

I did a picture for Halloween on the old forums a couple years ago. It was supposed to be the king and queen on prom night at Halloween High. I used the severed head package for V4 and a freebie texture for M4 called Mr. Meaty. The picture wasn't violent, nor did it imply an upcoming violent event, but for safety I tagged it as such.

I would hope everyone stays. In fact the two folks who were talking about leaving often balance each other out. One being nearly overly positive and one being nearly overly negative. But we need you both.

Everyone should be able to speak their mind ---just be adult about it. A little exhuberance a litlle criticism ----- its all good.

Indeed this forum and software needs everyone to participate. So we cannot lose folks.

We have enough troubles getting a new version --we do not need to fight amongst ourselves. We need to save our energy for art and Daz. Smiles.

Don't let the post deletions run you off.
Hell man, the mods see me inthe forums and delete some of my posts for the hell of it.

You are one of the most positive people in the forums. PLUS you're a Carraraist. Too few of those as it is.

Maybe after you get your little girl settled, you'll be back.

No worries. He's not leaving. He does regret starting this thread though, and hopes it will drop off the front page soon.

I hope he starts an OT thread here in the Carrara discussion and post some pictures of his little Granddaughter. Dart! ;-)
