Vanishing Geometry

Okay so maybe one of the Gurus here can help me figure this one out. I am trying to createa dForce hair, but the geometry when testing completely compresses into itself and I have no results to review for "testing" the final outcome.

Image one shows the geometry in Hex, which I save as an OBJ file, then import into DS. Image 2 shows the geometry in DS. I've turned the skullcap dynamic stregnth to 0, since I dont want it moving around on the head, and image 3 shows the parameters set for the "knape" area. (only geometry i've gotten ready to test.)

My issue is that when I start the dForce simulation, EVERYTHING compresses in upon itself, and therre is no geometry left to actually simulate, as seen in image 4.

I've tried just about everythign I can think of, there is no smoothing modifier on the knape area, I've pulled the buckling down to 0 since it was other tests that showed this is more of a 'kinkyness' aspect, which I have no desire to have in this hair, doesn't matter though as set to default or 0 the results are the same.

Anyone have any ideas what might be causing this?

Thanks

V

  • It looks as if a lot of the strips at the nape are made of a single polygon, presumably a quad. I would expect that to simulate badly since there's little for dforce to act on.

They are a single quad polly, as is the skullcap. Not sure that would be the cause or a lot of the products out there are made of single quads.

I did do a little more work with it and found that it has to do with WHERE on the skull cap the "hair" meets and is attached. If I get too close to the edge of the skullcap, it does this, but if I move one quad in from the edge, I get results that are usable, not great, but it is a functioning dForce simulation. Image attached.

So the hair peices are shorter I can adjust that, they twist, again I think that can be adjusted, what I really want to know is why the skullcap collapses on itself when the hair geometry is too close to the edge of the skullcap when attached.
