My Attempts at Daz Studio

Evening!

I've been using Daz more frequently this year especially with Vue, but have found myself actually setting up and rendering in Daz and then compositing with the Vue background, instead of exporting to an .obj file. For some reason I just can't get my figures to pop out or look more dynamic as an .obj file.

I've become a great fan of Uberlighting thanks in big part to the Blondie Lux Render video series, and am very much enjoying learning loads about Daz thanks to the excellent community here. So I thought this may be a good place to post some stuff of mine and hopefully get some feedback! Please feel free to be brutal as its the only way I feel I can improve as an artist!

Here's my latest called Hero's Rest and a link to my gallery if you fancy having a look.

Cheers

Jay

Beautiful image, great work. How do you make the light rays?

It's beautiful Jay :) The procession draws the eye from left to right, to the center where the action waits. Very effective.
The only thing I scrutinized was the far right, bottom corner. They looked like mini mountains and are almost as tall as the central figure in the middle. I might lower them a bit, as because they are dark they draw the eye that way too- and it's good because you are balancing out light and dark by having dark over there :) They just MIGHT look better a tad bit lower though. JMO. But this is so gorgeous!!! (I had to really think hard for any changes (note I didn't say improvements, lol) Nothing to be brutal about!

Good morning to you both. Thank you for taking the time to look and your kind comments. On further inspection Novica I think your spot on with the bottom right mountain piece. If I lower it I think it may open up the image a little more. Good call!

The vast majority of the light rays were done in Vue by choosing Global Radiosity and angling the sun so it was partially blocked by one of the mountains. By also choosing a low Ariel Perspective (no higher than 5 if memory serves) I was then able to achieve the God Rays effect. In Photoshop I then created a new layer and put in a radial blur, angled it to where the sun was and lowered the opacity just to give a few extra rays over the figures.

Once again thank you for looking and your kind comments

    Cheers

Gorgeous, I agree! Reminds me of the Rivendell scenes from the Lord of the Rings movies (not just the characters and setting...the lighting and color palette have a LotR feel to them too). I'm a big fan so that should be taken as a compliment. The setting and characters fit together really well. If I stare at their feet I can kind of tell that they were rendered separately and composited, but I don't think I would have noticed if you hadn't mentioned it.

    Hi Scott

Thank you very much for the comments. Really appreciate it. I had to pause the bluray of LoTR and The Hobbit so many times to get the feel right!

Originally I planned on getting it all rendered in Vue but just feel that rendering with Uberlight really helps the figures pop better when done in Daz. The only downside at the moment are the shadows but very much enjoying this learning process

Thank you again for your comments

Those are great movies to take inspiration from. Game of Thrones is also a good one.

Definitely agree with LoTR, but must admit I must be the only person in the world who's never seen Game of Thrones!

Nope, there are at least two of us... ;-)

(Looking forward to it, just making myself read the books first...or at least the first one, anyway.)

Wow I'm not alone after all!

Set myself a challenge to do a Star Wars inspired image. Background all made in Vue. Star Destroyer and Jedi ship are models from Sci-Fi3d.com (imported and rendered in Vue) and the city was the Dystopia city pack which I then exported from Daz into Vue. Copied them and rotated about to give variation

Figures posed and rendered in Daz with Uberlighting and two directional lights to mimic the sun. Amended the colour and set one sun to Specular. Changed the texture of the Rex cape to leather I think and amended the texture of the sabre hilts to metal.

All composited with sabre glows and lens dirt in Hitfilm 2. Some other Photoshop to work on the shadows.

Thanks for looking and please feel free to critique

    Image is called 'No Escape'

HI AngryChair... don't get angry at me.. giggles... Lovely render.. only bit that bugs me is the guy kneeling down looks like he has a peg leg. I had to blow it up and really look to see it was his sash touching the ground and he's kneeling... lol... but he still looks like a short guy with a peg leg to me... lol... maybe shorten the sash and angle the kneeling foot so it doesn't look cut off??? Anyway.. you asked for critiques :) Thanks for sharing... Happy rendering.

Here's my latest called 'The Messenger'

Went back to importing the figures into Vue and amended the bump settings and reflectivity to try and make the figures a little more natural.

Used Gen figures clothed in Amras and Night Guard

    Thanks for looking

    Morning

Working on a mini project with my bro and thought I'd share some new Renders. Argo was done in Vue with the Argos boat exported into .obj format.

Second PIC was rendered in Daz and comped in Hitfilm with one of my Vue backgrounds with some colour correction and contrast matching.

Third image is the same but exported from Daz into Vue, amended the bump maps and highlights and rendered with Vue's Global Radiosity. Not sure what version I prefer :-)

    Have a good day

Outstanding cinematic images. Vue really delivers on the vast landscapes and vegetation. The dock meeting is very nice.

One more test with a Vue backplate along with a Daz render with Uberlighting and a Directional Light to mimic the sun. Then composited together in Hitfilm 2

Some really nice atmospheric images here. I wish my version of Vue wasn't so hobbled.
