It means that the product has Metadata so that it will appear in the Smart Content panel.

I actually don't know what the smart content panel does though.

The smart content panel in DS will show you content that's appropriate for whatever you have selected in the scene tab. For example if you have a character that is based on Genesis selected in your scene tab then the smart content tab will only show content that has been tagged as working with Genesis. So you'll only see clothing designed for Genesis for example and not any V4 clothing you happen to have.

I use it a lot when working with things like hair. Select the hair in the scene and the go to Smart Content->Materials and it will show me just the materials for that hair. Same thing for clothes etc.

thanks everyone. And I do have another question.
If I install all the updates, there wouldn't be an older product in my list of downloads I haven't got around to installing yet, that will, when I install it, overwrite my newly updated products would there?

Nope.. the my Products gets Updated just as the DIM is. You should always get the newest files for content and still have a list of all Program versions and Plugins you have. I still have DS3 and plugins for it listed in my My Products section.

so suppose I have a long list of products and a short list of updates. And say I install the updates first. If I then install the product over the top I will wipe all my updates?
If that is the case I should have installed all my products and left the updates until last.

I often have a short list of updates at the top and a long list of new products to install at the bottom. I just check all the boxes and tell it to install and have never had an older version install over the update.

I might be wrong but I don't think the DIM will actually show you that a product has an update until it has installed the original. It uses a manifest file that tells it the latest version that it's installed and compares that to the version on the server to tell you there is an update. So if you've never installed the original then it wouldn't know there was an update. When you do let it install the original it will install the latest version available on the server.

The old version had to been installed with DIM previously for DIM to know there is an update. All the DIM zips are the latest updated version at the time of download, it is not like the update is a patch applied to the original zip.

Even if you haven't installed it, if you've downloaded it with DIM and it's still in the downloads folder, DIM will tell you if there's an update. You won't have the same product in both Products and Product Updates, so you don't have to worry about installing an update and then installing an older version over it. DIM will only install the latest version it knows about.

whew that is a relief. although I'm not strictly installing the way I'm meant to.
for one thing I didn't uniinstall any of my old stuff. and some of it is already installed but I want to install it all again so I can make my DIm list go to zero. that way i can tell what is new and if I have installed it or not.
So then I am installing into a folder, that i then rename and put into my folder where all my external runtimes reside. I have been told the uninstaller won't uninstall if I do it that way and for some reason need to uninstall. but I am told that is the only bad sideeffect of doing this.
