Looking For a Viable .DSF, .DUF Editor

Before everyone chimes in with notepad++, let me tell you it doesn't work for me as I get the same garbage as I get in wordpad. I just dowloaded the current 64 bit version from their website today.

I can see and edit .pz & .ds fine in wordpad and notepad++, but not .dsf & .duf files. I run Win7 Ultimate (64bit) as my os.

I would really appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks.

When you say "the same garbage" do you mean unprintable characters and black blodges, or do you mean that the text is not split neatly into lines?

If you mean the blodges, then that suggests that the .duf or .dsf file is compressed. If you put it through an unzipper (free 7Zip works well) then the resulting file should be in normal characters which Notepad++ can display and edit.

Yes, by garbage I do mean unprintable chars & black blodges. I have winzip and will try to unzip as you suggest. If winzip won't do the job, I'll get 7zip and try that. Thank you very much for your time and effort MelanieL

And once you get it uncompressed and opened in Notepad++, you can use the Language menu to format the content as JSON for a fairly organized presentation. I used to do this, and it was fine for minor work. Eventually, I broke down and bought DSON Editor. It's a little older style UI, but it works really well, and it can directly open compressed files, too.

Note that in order to unzip and maintain the file name, you should probably add an extension to the file. So if your file is called filename.dsf, maybe add .zip/.7z/.gzip to the end of the file, so that it becomes, for example, filename.dsf.zip. That way, when you unzip the file, the decompressed file will be named filename.dsf instead of just filename without any extension.

You don't need Winzip. You can uncompress the files in DAZ Studio. Go to Menu> Window> Panes> Batch Convert and click on Add Directory or Add Files. Choose the ones you want, then select Uncompress. If you want, you can compress them later using the same pane.
