*(Are there any special rules?)*  For installing DS to a different drive. My small drive is just for the operating system but there is a 1 TB drive for other programs.  Poser works there but Studio is balking.

I think the biggest challenge is getting everything pointed at the same drive. It's one thing to get Studio installed there, but you also need to make sure the content folders are there, if you're using Daz Install Manager (DIM) you'll need to make sure that it knows where the program and content folders are, but you also need to adjust the location for the temp folders that it uses when it's downloading and installing stuff.

I can't think of anything else that would be a particular challenge. What kinds of error are you getting when trying to run it this way?

I've run from D: for years. I generally do not use DIM, tho. I install large programs to D:\Program Files, and my content is in D:\Documents\DAZ.

Hi guys, thank you, this is my first time with the two drive business and I think after I get used to it I will like it. I upgraded the driver for the graphics card since one error was when I moved a chraracter it was duplicting itself hundreds of times if I kept moving her so I thought graphics first. I went to Intel and they did their own check and said it needed such and such and gave me a download, and it didn't work. Then I went to HP and did the same and they said the one Intel put in is newer than the one they had for me. I was getting pretty discourged and as a last resort, I went into device manager, clicked on the graphics card and it checked and started downoading. I thought this should be interesting and when done lo and behold everything rendered perfectly and she moves fine, no replicas of herself. I can't imagine why the Intel driver wouldn't work nor did the HPfixer even want to try, but good old Win 10 home did the job. And I never thought I would be saying that last line about anything. LOL Thank you!

After much head banging on the wall, I caved and install main programs to the OS drive, but I do have another large HD that I install all content to.

Where can one find the temp folders?

  • By default %AppData%/Daz 3d/Studio4/Temp/, though that can be chnaged in Edit>Preferences
