[Solved] Beta install gone wrong

GLEGLE Posts: 52

Hello

I was too eager to try the latest beta of DS, so I downloaded it via DIM while working with the previous build - the "Install after dl" box is not ticked. When DIM finished downloading, I closed Studio Beta and launched the install. I probably didn't leave enough time for Studio to close: installation was shown as done in a couple of seconds and installed size jumped from about 500 MB to 1 GB. Too fast even for an SSD.
I then clicked Reinstall package, but nothing happened, so I clicked Delete package.

DIM stopped showing Studio Beta as an available, ready or installed product.

I uninstalled everything through the Control Panel (DIM, PostGRE, Studio non beta) and went to the Users/public, %appdata% and Program files folders to clean the residues. Then cleaned the registry via CCleaner and restarted.

DIM is still not showing the Beta (The PostGRE Beta and other Beta items are visible after enabling the Public Build filter).
Any suggestion is deeply appreciated. Thanks!

System specs:

MB: Asus Rampage V Extreme, BIOS 3902
CPU: i7-5820k
RAM: 128 GB G.Skill Tridentz RGB
GPU: 2x nVidia GTX 980Ti, driver 398.82
System drive: Samsung SSD 840 Evo 250 GB
Data drive: Storage space with parity, 9 TB thin provisioned, 5.33 TB used, 3x WD RED 3 TB physical drives
PSU: Lepa G1600 with real sinewave UPS
OS: Windows 10 Pro 64, rel 1803, up to date

EDIT: I found out that the Beta can be downloaded manually from the "My Products" page. I didn't do this for quite a long time, because IIRC some time ago the only way to get the beta was via DIM.
I then placed the .zip in the DIM default download directory and it was picked up as "ready to install". Installation went well. Now DIM in showing the Beta as installed and Studio Beta works fine.

  • The current DS Public beta requires DIM - are you sure that the one in your Product Library, allowing direct download, isn't for an older version of DS?

    Hello Richard :)

I'm currently on 4.11.0.196 so I think I did it right.

What I downloaded was not an .exe but a .zip package with typical DIM structure (manifest file etc), and I could use DIM to perform the install after placing it in the \Users\Public\Documents\DAZ 3D\InstallManager\Downloads folder.

I'm rechecking the product page of DS Beta and the .zip can no longer be downloaded. Maybe I performed the initial upgrade while some sort of server maintenance was in progress.

    Thank you for caring

  • Ah, that's OK - I thought you meant a stand-alone installer, which would have been surprising
