Maya Exporters and Anatomy Packages

Hi folks. I apologize if this runs long -- I'm really looking for help & answers and will not convey things well if I skip over details...

I have had these questions lingering for a while and want to go straight to the source (you smart people)!

Part 1: I'm curious about the two Daz to Maya exporters:

"Daz to Maya" // https://www.daz3d.com/daz-to-maya

and "Genesis 8 for Maya"  // https://www.daz3d.com/genesis-8-for-maya

Basically my curiosity for both of these is their flexibility to get high quality, animatable meshes, morphs, and flexions out of DAZ to be used elsewhere (Maya). Typically FBX exports are at the lowest resolution mesh, and flexions (even if exported) will not link and trigger automatically.

Genesis 8 for Maya sounds to do that, but I still don't fully understand Genesis 8 and what "Daz Original Core figures support" actually means. Most of my DAZ figures are Genesis 1 -- are they 'compatible' with Genesis 8 and this exporter? Even after reading, Genesis 8 does confuse me quite a bit. I'd like use what I have if possible.

"Daz to Maya", on the other hand, seems to export any Genesis character -- but makes no mentions of flexion linking and morphs -- though I love that it converts automatically do vray and arnold render engines.

Can anyone help me make sense of all of this, perhaps?

To add to the scenario, I have some potential work that the anatomy packages would apply to, and compatibility with these is also a concern:

 Anatomy 4 Pro Bundle // https://www.daz3d.com/anatomy-4-pro-bundle

has everything I would need (skeleton and internals included), but is version 4...I assume exporters would not work for these, and no 'flexions' / automatic muscle flexing works even in DAZ?

There are Genesis 8 versions that look extremely similar in separate packages:

https://www.daz3d.com/muscle-maps-for-genesis-3-and-8-male

https://www.daz3d.com/muscle-maps-for-genesis-3-and-8-female

https://www.daz3d.com/muscularity-morphs-for-genesis-8-female-s

https://www.daz3d.com/muscularity-morphs-for-genesis-8-males

For the figures and morphs. Again though...I'm curious if the 'flexing' is automatic or self-dialed...

...and VERY LASTLY...would I be able to use the version 4 skeleton / organs with the G8 figures?

I KNOW this is a lot, and I'm sorry to write so much -- I've tried to figure them out but I've been stuck for a long while on these issues.

Thank you for any help and insight you all may be able to provide! :)

John

Genesis 8 for Maya does set up JCMs, but it only works for Genesis 8 Figures. The Genesis 8 Core figures, means basically the Daz Original characters that are sold in pro bundles. Most of them are listed here:

    https://www.daz3d.com/genesis-8-core-figures

It will work with any Genesis 8 figure, but if the figure has any JCMs beyond the base JCMs and the character specific JCMs for the specific characters on the linked page, they won't be set automatically.

Genesis 8's flexion morphs work automatically.

Genesis 8 for Maya won't work with Genesis 1. There is a Genesis 3 for Maya that works with Genesis 3 (Genesis 3 doesn't have out of the box flexion moirphs and Genesis 3 for Maya doesn't configure any flexion moprhs), but as of right now I don't have plans on supporting any other previous generations.

Most morph packages should work with my plug-in, just set them as favorites in Daz Studio and then run the export script and they should be included in the FBX file. If not, let me know.

I beleive what you said about DazToMaya is correct.

    I hope that helps.

    John,

Get Both. DazToMaya pretty much exports everything and if it's a rig, will convert it to humanIK. So, if you need older content such as Genesis 1 or 2 or even M3, it's the one to use.It doesn't have JCM support, however. Maybe with the update that's coming.I've exported as far back as Michael 3, without errors.

Genesis 8 for Maya, however, is BEAUTIFUL kit, if you need a Gen 8 character. Seriously. If you need a Gen 8 character, hands down, LayLo's is the best. Add in this:

    https://gumroad.com/l/dazr

Which is a simple one-click facial rigger, a Gen 8 character is ready right out of the box, with LayLo's script.
