If you load G3M and M7, you'll see that M7 is a bit taller and I also think has slightly different lengths in arms and legs. The M7 poses are specifically tailored to take into account whatever length differences are existing. Id you'd apply the G3M pose on M7 (or vice versa), it's very likely that in some poses, you'd have hands poking into hips, or feet not being at the proper location compared to where they should had you used the chararacter the pose was desinged for.
Basically, the specialized pose saves you the time you'd need if you had applied the base pose, but it only will give perfect results if you use M7 without other changes in shape.
EDIT: Here's an example: The pose is from the "magical Guy" set.
This is the G3M version of the pose, applied to both, G3M (back) and M7 (front). As you can see, due to M7's larger body size, the settings of the arms are not enough to make his hands touch, as they do for G3M.
This is the M7 version of the pose. As you can see, now the arms of M7 are looking fine, but the same pose applied to G3M makes the hands of G3M merge together.
In both cases, there are no drastic issues, and they could be easily fixed by manual adjustment, but with characters who are even more different from each other in terms of proportions, the adjustments required fora fix might be multiple.
