Making HDRi scenes visible in viewport?

Hello -

When using HDRi scenes, particularly DAZ Studio Iray HDR Outdoor Environments, how do you make the loaded scene show in the viewport so that you can place and manipulate/pose characters and props easily? This does not appear to be automatic in this product.

Thank you.

The Viewport has to be in Iray mode too see the HDRI, which will slow the computer down considerably. I open the AUX Viewport and have that set to Iray for viewing and hide it when not needed or if the computer slows down too much that nothing can be moved around the scene.

You could use IBL Master for Daz Studio, which lets you see the HDRI and work with your scene in the quicker Texture Shaded mode.

With this particular product, I loaded the Scene (actually, merged it into the existing character) and nothing showed in the Aux, even with it set to Iray. Then, I loaded the Background, and it worked, but is the dome loaded as well, or just the background? Not sure I understand the difference between loading a Scene and a Background. Are both needed? Or does the Scene include the Background and camera settings?

Double clicking on the scene will load the hdri into the Iray Dome which should show up when the viewport is set to Iray. The background is just that. It is  a static image of the hdri which will show up but you wont be able to pan around like you can with the dome.

Well, it must have worked when I merged the Scene into the existing one, since I seem to be able to pan about in the Aux panel. I may have to add one or more lights of some kind to overcome the "pasted on" appearance that the character has on the scene. It needs slight ambient shadow.
