'ghost items' [Solved - as best it can be]

Hi, yesterday,  to keep it brief, I accidentally uninstalled 360 items in my library (including Daz Studio), I opened up the file I'd been working on, after reinstalling Daz, to see if I'd deleted anything that I'd been working on. When the file opened a number of items were missing. I didn't think much of it, closed the file, without saving, and came back later, much late, after I"d reinstalled all of the items that had been deleted.

Even though I've installed everything again the items are now invisible in my scene. They are turned on to be visible but aren't. I can get a couple back by reopening them from the Smart Content table but other items had custom shaders and I can only open a new, other version. I tried refreshing the library but that doesn't work. Is there anything else I can force refresh? I vaguely remember seeing something like that but can't find it? What can I do save rebuild the scene?

Thanks

  • You might see if you have a prior version of the file, you might also try clearing the DSON cache (in Edit>Preferences). I'm not sure if this is expected behaviour or not.

Thanks Richard for your reply. Emptying the cache didn't work, I even tried restarting daz studio afterwards. I had to load a new version of all the 'ghost' items, copy the pose from the 'ghost' to the new items then delete the original. I initially tried just loading a new version of the 'ghost' item while it was selected. That worked for the items with default surfaces, however deleting the original resulted in the new item popping up somewhere else and if I deleted the new item the original would disappear. Very odd glitch. I'll be more careful when I'm installing next time. By the way, I must have hit save on the file when experiencing problems because opening and closing it today hasn't changed the modified date though, I don't know why I'd have hit save and I'm pretty sure I didn't. Well, chalk it up to experience.

I eventually found  alot more glitches and had to delete and reaply surfaces and a lot of items. I copied the poses for speed.

Moral: Don't uninstall your Daz Library and open a file before making sure everything is back where it should be.

    Thanks
