CNTRL and props surfaces/ lighting, does it work on figures?

Szark mentioned "holding down ctrl when clicking on a number of things like lights and surfaces for example gives you more options too." in an older thread that I am reviewing.

1. When loading a prop, I got the options for Surfaces (ALL) and Map Settings (Replace) (Ignore) Haven't used those so no clue. Someone explain?

2. Is that also used for people with the texture maps? When I go to UV settings in Surfaces, there are limited options and I've never changed a character to another character UV map (is that the right term-or should I say skin Mats? The skin surface materials are on a UV map so do I just say UV map for a materials setting?), so wondering if that's how to do it. Would be good for newbies to know so thought I'd ask everything all at once. And to get these terms straight because I'm reading different terms for what appears to be the same thing all over the forums sometimes. Can get confusing.

3. And I forget to keep checking what CNTRL does when adding lights. Can we just go ahead and explain that part of it too if it's pretty straightforward?

1: No idea and from what I can see it doesn't do much when used with Props or Figures. However if you hold down Alt and drag your Prop of Figure in the scene you get a placement marker so you can place the prop or figure where you want as opposed to the default world centre.

Holding CTRL down when loading a Pose Preset gives you options too. Some Poses are made for scenes and will place the figure or prop in the desinated position. However if you want to use the pose preset and you want the figure/prop to remain at world centre then this is where this function comes in handy. Just deselcted the X, Y and Z translations in the dialogue box and the Figure/Prop will remian at world centre after Posing instead of disappear to god knows where. :)

2: A UVmap U and V are 2D coordinates, Horizontal and Vertical, this is used as a templete for the texture map so if fits the mesh perfectly. Think of a mesh that has seams so it can be flattened out like a cardboard box before it becomes a box. ;)

3: Holding CTRL for lights lets you Replace existing lights, Replace Selected lights or Add to the scene without replacing the existing lights in the scene.

1 and 2 - those options should happen only with material presets - the maps refers to textures, if you select ignore the textures won't be changed but the numeric settings (and shader) will.

If you change Surfaces to Selected only then the surfaces areas that aren't selected (via the Surfaces pane or the Surface Selection Tool) will be left alone.

I tested this when Novica posted and yes holding down Ctrl when loading a prop or figure brings this dialouge box up, hence why I said I don't think it will do anything. :)
