Hi all Just attempted to install DAZ. By my calcs should be a little over 1.2 gig inc hexagon. Used download manager on default settings. All remaining 19 gig on hard drive used and still 7 gig pending. Does anyone have any suggestions about what I've done wrong please?

  • Did you install content too? The Starter Essentials alone shouldn't eat that much, I think, but it wouldn't ake a lot of content to eat up the GB.

    Don't forget, if you have a second drive with more space, that you can place your content directories there (and tell DIM to put Downloads there) - in DIM click the gear icon at top-right to open preferences, you can then set the Download directory (Downloads tab) and the content installation location (Installation tab - click + to add a new location, fill in the details, and when done use the Current setting at the bottom of the tab to tell DIM to use that folder). Once DIM is installing where you want you need to tell DS to use the same location, manaully in Edit>Preferences>Content tab>Content Directory Manager or by downloading this script and dragging it into the Daz Studio Viewport http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/referenceguide/scripting/api_reference/samples/file_io/install_manager_config_import/start

    I used this page and clicked on Daz studio for 32 bit windows. If it also loaded content not on the page such as content, as you suggest, that's probably done it. Sadly working with ageing computers and the only one fast enough to run Daz is a laptop with little drive space. I'll have to buy an external drive until I can get funds saved for a new computer. Thanks for the advice. I'll put it into practice when I get the drive. ????

    @GibbyG

    Shouldn't even be that much. You only need to load one version of DAZ Studio 4.10 and the default resouces. You don't need Hexagon to use Studio and can always install Hexagon later.

    I only clicked on Daz studio 32 bit. It added Hexagon itself and presumably 26 gig of unknown content. I'll avoid download manager next time.
  • You can uninstall unwanted stuff from the isntalled tab of Install Manager. I don't fully understand what is happening with new-user isntalls, but you might open a support ticket over this in case it is fetching more than it shoudl or perhaps the signposting of what it will do is not being understood.

    @GibbyG "I only clicked on Daz studio 32 bit. It added Hexagon itself and presumably 26 gig of unknown content. I'll avoid download manager next time."

    The Install Manager only does what the User selects. It doesn't do things on it's own, particularly not installing content that the User doesn't see on the Ready to Download or Ready to Install tabs.

    I had an old version of Hexagon. Perhaps the installer automatically updated to version 2. I'm making space by transferring data to external drive. I'll complete the install later this week. Thanks for your help folks. Much appreciated.
  • You can use an external drive for yur content via DIM and DS - as long as you make sure it always has the same drive letter assigned.

    Problem solved. When I downloaded and installed DAZ3D the installer has auto downloaded the content I'd purchased for Poser a few years back, but in Daz format.
