Sporty Ponytail Hair: No Tail/Braid on G8F

Thought hair was compatible G3 - G8 but maybe not.  Store has offered tech spt. or refund.  Hoping someone here might be able to help since DAZ probably busy

Readme reports no known issues, but it *is* for G3 and not G8.  Documentation

Not good at explaining so hopefully SS’s will help.

Appears that ‘TailLong’ & ‘TailBraid’ load correctly on G3 do not load on G8?  Loads part near the ears?

Consequentially cannot hide one (choose between braid or tail) in scene tab, and cannot rotate on x, y, z.  The sliders don’t seem to do anything.

Thanks for reading

The hair was made for G3F (before G8F existed). When you added it to G8F I assume you allowed it to autofit? (i.e. had G8F selected in the scene, added the hair, got a popup asking which figure the hair was for, selected G3F, hit OK?) This loses custom bones from the autofitted item - so it no longer has the "TailLong" and "TailBraid" bones.

There are ways to make it fit to G8F without losing those bones. The "easy" way is to parent the hair instead of fitting it.
Have your G8F loaded but not selected in the scene and still in the default A-pose. Load the hair, right-click on the hair in the scene tab and change it's parent from "None" to G8F's head. It should mostly fit and move with her, but this method won't make it fit very well if your G8F character has a head shape greatly different from the base, as it will not follow head morphs. You may need to use the translation and/or supplied adjustment morphs to get the hair close enough to the head, depending on how extreme your characer morphs are.

The neater way is to follow a tutorial written by Sickleyield which explains how to convert hair and clothing between G3F and G8F. You can find it here: https://www.deviantart.com/sickleyield/journal/Tutorial-Convert-Clothing-G3-to-G8-G8-to-G3-686682065 - most of it is about converting clothing (at the top) but then there's a one-liner about hair which is much easier to do. You still need to read the bit at the top about clothing to follow her method correctly though. And be very careful if you save the hair that you don't overwrite the original (Sickleyield explains what to do in the tutorial).

Edit: to correct errors in my initial post.

Very powerful tool.   Saved (converted?) hair as subset & it works everytime. yes

    Many thanks!

edited for clarity: what was saved as subset

    Glad you got it working.
I've been going through my own Gen3 content and gradually converting it - I have so much though that it may take ages!

Tell me about it. At my current rate, we'll probably see Genesis 10 before I'm done. wink
