I am excited for new Carrara!!! I may not be able to afford it, but I am hoping! :)

I'm a little worried about the price.

I have yet to install my Carrara 8Pro yet, so I guess I might end up waiting to see what it costs.

I usually wait till most of the bugs are out before I "upgrade." Since I do this professionally, buggy software scares the crap out of me.

    DUDU,
    You're right :)
...and I really think that DAZ agrees, and that's why they made this ".5" step - to keep this development phase separate. And their original plans were to make it an inexpensive "upgrade"... we shall see.

Knock me out until it arrives... that slick carraracafe leaks such small news its make me feel like carrara is the 2013 drug I missed out on. LOL...

I understand DAZ's model for content and all....and understand that is the constraints we live by with them as developers. I even understand the market being down --- just saying I want to see DAZ actually make some real enhancements to Carrara in 9 and I am also one to say take some time and make some real improvements......I am more interested to see them just start working on some things we see being done elsewhere when they get done I can wait --its more a gesture showing some caring for your customers who have stood by you all these years.

I hope the u/g is affordable because I see it as a premium cost, however required to get a functional version that meets today's inter-operability expectations for DAZ's animation app suite, Carrara Pro. I too have yet to even use the Carrara 8 that I purchased last fall because DS 4.5+ & Poser and iClone 3DX have fulfilled my needs to date (incl support Genesis) but the concept of a fully integrated "total 3d pipeline" application seemed too intriguing to pass up. However early experiences with 8.5 beta were not fun (crashes/incompatibilities) so decided not to mess with it further until the release of the 8.5 patch.

Maybe a "content value" bundle version of the upgrade will be released to add some value for folks in this category. Kind of sweeten the medicine a bit if you will.

    Greetings,
I'm a very recent purchaser of Carrara (I _swear_ I have advertisements in old magazines spelling it differently), and I'm Genesis-only in DAZ Studio, so the upgrade price is probably going to frustrate me, but I'll pay it.

What I hope is that they charge enough for the upgrade (+ whatever they make in content income) to pay for the salaries of the very smart developers who continue development. As much as we all want a cheap upgrade, I hope we don't want it at the cost of them cutting off their nose.

I imagine the pricing model is set, however, and probably has been for a month while they develop marketing materials around it.

Is it just me, or does it seem like there has been no marketing for a new Carrara, that everyone has been waiting for in quite some time? Even Girl 6 got a pre-sale coupon hint. Seems like this was an opportunity to gain some momentum, build this up, and get some new interest and users in the non-Carrara area's (like even a slider on the main page, that hinted its coming?) Opportunity missed...? :|

    Obviously it's just you.
    ;)

Today I was thrilled to find that, by clicking on DAZ's hot promotions, I can save (today only) 30 percent on the high Low Fun and Fantasy stuff

Wait till I tell my wife that there are more important things than advertising the new Carrara update............

she'll be just as thrilled as myself......

    ;)

What!?! They released the High Low Skirt!?!?! How could I have known? How could I have missed that? No wonder there was no Carrara release marketing. Well, darn, there goes my Carrara upgrade savings...

(lol, no offense to Les Pardew, of course, purely intended as a sarcastic Carrara marketing joke)

:D wiping tears from my eye.

Thankfully the over hyped products often mis-the mark on meeting expectations. "Cough" -d-yawn For the C 8.5 release, this may be a good sign.

They may not want to advertise it until it's actually released. I'd be surprised if I didn't see a bunch of e-mails from DAZ about C8.5 when I check my e-mail after work tomorrow.

Special pricing - but I can't get the math to work out.

  • edited August 2013

Humm, price changed 5 minutes after I first looked. Now, (PC) store price is $171 - with 50% discount - for total of $85.50.

    Much better. That's a go.

[edit] - I already had purchased M5 and V5 Pro Bundles - maybe that's why the store price dropped from $269 (when I first looked) down to $171????

Downloading now - Only 4 products show up in the DIM...

    Carrara 8.5 (Win 32-bit)
    Carrara 8.5 Pro (Win 64-bit)
    Carrara RenderNode 8.5 (Win 32-bit)
    Carrara RenderNode 8.5 (Win 64-bit)

Apparently the Native Content is bundled in the Carrara 8.5 package - no separate download.

Not sure I got the right price, but I purchased it. There is no download link on the product pages for C8.5 Pro Native content, or C8.5 Native content. They do not show in the install manager either.

Good thing I got V5 for something around 35 bucks...
So it doesn't hurt too much. I just hope that this Carrara will be far more stable than good old 8.1. Lost this weekend 5 hours of work because it crashed and in the process of crashing, corrupting my file *sigh* Good that I always keep Master Files of my Characters and Scenes seperate.

That's what it cost me as well. As I see it the price should have been:

    Intro Price $285.
Prior Carrara Owner discount 50% makes $142.50
Plat Club discount 40% makes $85.50

I logged out to see the street price, and it was $285.00.

    Greetings,
Yeah, I know this sounds bad, but just don't buy anything in the first 30 minutes after DAZ Midnight, unless you're REALLY certain the error is on your side. Because there's always an error. New items 404 for the first 5-15 minutes, prices fluctuate as the database updates and the cached pages get pushed out to their CDN, different simultaneous sales conflict, and sometimes someone honestly mistyped the sale formula.

It's a mess for the first half hour most of the time. It's not even DAZ's fault. Well, if they were less aggressive with sales it might be easier, but I doubt most folks would be happy at that, either. :)
