Hi everyone.

I've not been around much recently, busy with other stuff for the first half of this year.
Last time ( in the old forum) I posted a load of my dragon pictures... This time, it's ships.

All done in Bryce (with some elements imported from Poser).

What lead me back to this forum was when Daz sent me one of those junk.... errr, I mean informative sales emails. :)

It's was for this fabulous pirate girl outfit... Which is on sale at the moment so I couldn't pass up the opportunity to take advantage and do some more Poser rending.

    These rendered in Poser 8.
    Model: V4
Character texture: Fenrissa Bellarue (damn, is that really how you spell it?)
Hair is a freebie Rasta dreadlocks, but I've added the leopard print head scarf.
Tear drop in third last picture was also a freebie and a bit of a headache to size and position.

Addition of background and signature is the only post work except for the smoke on the pistol.

So yesterday evening I purchased Photobox for Poser.
As I had all the pirate girl stuff to hand, i thought it would make an ideal testing subject.

    So... errrr... spot the difference:

  • Dave SavageDave Savage Posts: 2,433

The difference is eight hours and fifty minutes.

The only difference in set up is that the first picture was done using the "Render Preview" setting, the second done using the "Render Final" setting.
Yup, 'render preview' took about ten minutes to render and 'render final' took nine hours!
Yes, there is subtle difference in the amount of detail and the second pic is slightly sharper... but the cost of that minute improvement doesn't seem worth over eight hours to me.

But don't get me wrong, I'm very happy with Photobox, I think the results it gives are great, just that I probably won't be using the 'Render Final' setting very often (if ever).

And to celebrate I also purchased Photobox Extra and re rendered the full figure using some custom settings.
I rendered this at 4000px high (just to experiment) and then reduced it back down in Photoshop so it was a more reasonable size to post. :)

I'm in danger of creating many threads for each subject, so I figured I'd just stick to posting all my renders from now on in this one thread (until the boffins at Daz decide to start the forum from scratch again and wipe out my renders thread). ;)

Feel free to comment, criticise, ridicule or compliment... and ask if there's anything you want to know. :)

    Thanks

Very nice my friend, I have not used a set of wings for ages now.....:red:

What is Photobox......what does it do?

    Thanks :)

Photobox is a set of stuff to use in Poser. It's basically a stage box you set your scene up inside and a set of lights and pre saved render settings, all optimised for indirect light, giving your final render more realism.
I also bought Photobox extra at the same time, which just adds the ability to easily tweak the individual light colours.

Here you go: Photobox for Poser

Is there anything like photobox for DAZ? I could use something like that.

I'm not really very familiar with Daz Studio, I haven't used it for a few years (maybe I shouldn't be admitting that here :)).

But, I think there are several "sky domes" that have a similar effect and really the most important part is in the render settings.
I do know that Daz Studio can do some amazing things with lighting, but maybe a more experienced Daz Studio user will have a better answer.

Be warned though, using indirect light render settings will vastly increase your render times.

ETA: Here you go, some documentation from Daz about indirect lighting: Indirect Lighting in Daz Studio

Second ETA: Looking around the intertubez, I'm learning that it's called Uberenvironment.
There was a thread about it on the old Daz Forum Here

So that pirate girl up thread...

I decided she needed a fella, so originally I came up with this chap.

But then I figured she wouldn't look at him twice... even if she fancied a 'bit of rough' :)

But I didn't give up on him. I added more tatts, gave him a parrot and took his leg off.

Of course, that still left the pirate girl without a fella... So with some neatening up, smartening up and a shave...

M4 became the ideal partner for her... and they all lived happily ever after...except that ones who didn't:

Today, I have mostly been rendering pictures of this dark angel girl.

First one is another Poser Photobox render, the second one is regular Poser lighting render with sky added in Photoshop.

Yesterday, I was playing with this character.
Trying different texture sets and tweaking the lighting/camera angle.

I think the white one looks best, but as I'm usually a dark person on the whole, I'm undecided.

Very impressive. I especially like the ships that are docked at night. They're very book cover-ish, if you know what I mean.

Thanks Steve, it's very kind of you to say so.
Yes, that one does seem to the most popular one, maybe a candidate for a framed print though it'd take at least a few days to render at the right size for that. :)

I already posted these in the Show us your Bryce Renders thread, but thought be OK in here too.

All 100% Bryce rendered with no post work except for adding my name and date.

Fabulous renders :-) on the landscapes.
Love the females, based on reality or purely fantasy I wonder. Very sexy

    Thanks Anne :-)

I do have friends who look a bit like that (being Gothy/Piratey types). But as far as I know, none of them have wings nor could they be described as "angels" in any sense of the word...
