Parenting Two Primitives

For some reason I cannot parent these two lots of primitives together and have them move up and down together. Any help appreciated.Cheers

  • Is the telescopic part one object or several? If it's one, is it using a morph to expand?

  • The telescopic part is one one object that uses several morphs to expand. It is a Poser primitive I found somewhere and imported into DAZ Studio! Cheers

  • OK, in that case I think you would need to give it a Rigid Follow Node (which might, in its turn, entail making the object a figure) then parent the second cylinder to the Rigid Follow Node.

  • Sorry I forgot to include morph settings.

I think the idea was that you can adapt the showen steps to the morphing prop to create a Rigit Follow Node like showen in the video at 4:00.

Actualy there are just a few steps required:

    1. select the item in the scene, switch to the Geometry Editor and select some faces with Drag Selection mode - in your case the top of the morphing primitive
    2. right-click the viewport and choose: Geometry Assignment > Create Rigit Follow Node From Selected - now enter a name and a new node with the symbol of an i-beam should appear in the Scene pane parented to your prop - it is looking like a null or group object in the viewport, this colored cross that dosn't get rendered
    3. parent the other prop to the Rigid Follow Node in the Scene pane hirarchie tree, by eigther drag&drop there or use the Parent to action, but make shure Parent In Place is on - that setting can be found in the Parameters pane option menu - with Parent In Place off the parented prop should snap into position otherwise it stays where you placed it
    4. test your morph - the rigit follow node should now stay attached to the faces you have selected and so all other parented items should follow as well
