Actually, I did have to restore data from a crashed hard drive, recently, but not to the locations where Studio was installed - the only things affected were where I stored my saved scenes.

When I check the properties under that path, every folder is marked "Read-only (Only applies to files in folder)", and changing that doesn't seem to last beyond applying it - leave the folder and come back, and the RO setting is back. I don't know if that is what is preventing PostGRE from writing all its folders and files, or not. I don't see an option to install PostGRE anywhere else. What's frustrating is that this all worked, before, and then I had the problems with the corrupted G3M assets, and then had to go to extreme lengths to flush them off the machine. Now, what worked before no longer works, but, hey, at least G3M doesn't load looking like a zombie!

With luck taking ownership of the folder (assuming you are on Windows) will fix the issue.

    FINALLY!!!

At first it didn't work, even when I uninstalled and reinstalled the program. Then I deleted the CMS folder and all its contents, reinstalled it, it built all the folders and files that had been missing, and Studio fired back up without the error message. Still have no Smart Content. angry

I'm reimporting the metadata - we'll see what that does.

    EDIT: SUCCESS!!! Thanks, guys!

When I right-clicked on the Smart Content Tab as stated in this video My "Start CMS" button was greyed out and wouldn't let me click on it til I followed the instructions at the following link ... https://helpdaz.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/207812393-PostgreSQL-Connection-Error-and-No-Smart-Content ... After following these instructions I got rid of the ERROR msg BUT still my content wouldn't show up in the Smart Tab until I upgraded to Daz 4.11 ... Thanks for making this video it got me on the right track and let me know others were having this annoying issue :)

            fihs video also

I know this thread is old, but it's the first one that comes up in the google search for this. I found this link that for some reason doesn't show up in the google search that actually helped me with this really easily when nothing else I found on the forums did.  https://helpdaz.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/207812393-PostgreSQL-Connection-Error-and-No-Smart-Content

Edit: Well I feel dumb. I just noticed that the post just above mine included the link. ><  Sorry to resurrect an old thread for nothing.

The CMS needs access to an internal port on your computer and some Firewalls block it. You will need to allow the CMS access through the firewall and allow it to connect to the port. It isn't Studio that needs the access it is the PostgreSQL program.

Can you possibly tell me where to look in my firewalls settings? I use the one that comes with Bitdefender, and it can be a bit complex.

  • It looks like its been several years with no real solution to this issue?

Anyone have a working solution for this CMS issue? This just happened to me moments ago and NOTHING I tried works. Now what?

PS: If we cannot get the client system started, will DAZ refund me for the hundreds of dollars worth of digital content I will no longer be able to use??

The trouble is it isn't "an issue" - there are many things that could block the interaction of the database and DS.

A firsts tep would be to give your system details, including OS, path settings and security softare used.

You can use almost all content without the CMS, through the Content Library pane.

I bought a new Laptop (Win 11) yesterday and installed Daz Studio 4.22, the the error message showed up.

I've tried everything, re-install PsdtgreSQL CMS, check the path, re-install Studio, none of theses works.

The file "dblog" under ContentCluster showed the message:

FATAL:  role "jc311" does not exist
ERROR:  relation "customer" does not exist at character 15

jc311 is my windows user name, is this message helpful?

Not helpful and relevant... Daz cms uses a role named "dzcms". If the issue still persists after trying all ways, check your Windows user, see if its belong to authorization group - ADMISTRATORS... Don't create user with this group.

Create a new user and retry...

Alright, I think I'll just ignore the error message, thanks anyway.

Guys, the definitive solution with this PostgreSQL CMS BS.

    Open your USER/AppData/Roaming/Daz3d/cms

    Find the text file 'dblog'

Open it and read what is the file or directory which it couldn't open because it doesn't exist (marked as FATAL).

Create an empty file or directory (folder) with that name in that folder (Daz3d/cms).

    Enjoy.

Oh my god this worked.... Thank you so much!
