Dummy entries in Smart Content

I helped a friend test a script not that long ago.  The script worked, but it was an earlier version of it that left some bad entries in my Smart Content.  They have the names of clothing items, but no icon, just the blank default icon square DS uses.  They don't load anything; they trigger the scene merge dialog, but don't actually merge anything into the scene.

Is there any way to get rid of something like this, or to "refresh" smart content so it checks if there's any assets associated with a smart content entry?  Attempting to delete from the Smart Content pane so far doesn't work.

I have solved similar issues by going to the Content Library/Categories section and selecting the category that they are in in Smart Content (like maybe yours are Scene Subsets, if they invoke the merge scene dialog). There you can find the icons, select them and choose the Content Library menu item to remove orphaned references (I don't remember the exact menu item name, and I'm not at that computer right now).

  • Note, however, that Rob did find (and fix in a build that hasn't yet been eleased) some issues with the display of commands needed to find and remove the references in the Content Library.

Thanks, that seems to be working.  It's a pain tracking down all the refs through all the categories they're in, but at least I can get rid of them.

    (Fingers crossed, Richard.)

I believe it is safe to select everything in the category and remove orphaned references, rather than searching out each individual orphan icon. At least I have not had a problem with doing that. It seems to get rid of the orphans and leave the good references. We might see if Richard has an opinion on that...

  • Oh hey, that's WAY faster!! Thanks!

Thank you Barbult!  That is very helpful.  I tend to cause havoc in the CMS when I am testing all of my different scripts, especially when I am learning something new blush
