Multiple overlapping surfaces on an Object

So, I just accidentally found (either through a bug or by design) that I can have multiple surfaces on an object, covering the same faces.

I always thought I needed LIE or a Geometry shell to do that...but apparently not (unless it is a bug).  I was never able to do this via the Geometry tool (it would subtract faces away from one surface if applied to another surface).

What is the ruling on this?  Sure, that's fine, or no, you've found a bug that will end up giving you problems in the long run.

(I did this by having a geometry shell on a figure, exporting as OBJ and re-importing...and I get two surfaces, that act just like the shell is still there, but it does not show in the scene tab.  Though maybe it is there, and the bug is that it is not showing?)

  • That doesn't sound like good behaviour - as far as I know both groups and surfaces should have exclusive claim on their polygons. If you have the OBJ and the figure loaded that is two items, but I'm not quite clear on what you are seeing.
