Can you recommend a graphic drawing tablet?

Hi,

I'm thinking of getting one so what better place to ask for opinions than here?

To qualify, I'm not looking for a top of the line product ( very expensive!) and it needs to work with my iMac, though I suspect most are both platforms friendly.

Thanks!

I use a Wacom Bamboo. It is really good for what I need it for.

For this type of hardware I'd say there is only one thing to know : buy Wacom product
There are many size and price but you can begin with the lowest price (100€) and it's still very good quality

I bought a Bamboo A6 last year to replace my old Graphire because I saw they had a new wireless option and I was fed up with the Wire. I'm very happy with their new design and functionnality

One thing some of my friends found difficult with a drawing tablet is that you can't draw like you do with a paper as you have to watch the screen and don't see your own hand
If you have ever drawn before, and want the same feeling, then the only option is the Cintiq but it's quite expensive for a hobbyist

Thank you for your advice - I see that you both agree on what tablet to use!

I've actually resorted to drawing with the mouse in Photoshop! Needless to say, there isn't much control there to speak of... : /

To clarify, I can use the tablet to work in PS, right?

Yep works with any painting program. You can also write with it or use it as a mouse. Depending on the product you choose, the pen and tablet have more or less functions (buttons) that you can customize for any action

You can also use it as a touch pad for your pc if you get one that allows for touch as well as pen. I use the Wacom Bamboo Fun Pen and Touch- sadly though they no longer offer this version directly through Wacom.

Upgraded last year from a Genius G-Pen 450 to the Wacom Pen & Touch Small :cheese: Very happy with it and I use only for PS :-P

Like Takeo.Kensau] I also use the wireless accessory; I have a rather odd work layout because my PC is a Full Tower :P

I use Wacom Intuos 5 large but I would recommend a medium. I bought a large thinking I needed the extra space and sometimes it very handy but takes up a lot space when using it. The medium size Intuos 5 is very affordable.

I predominantly use it for photoshop and zBrush.

I use a medium Intuos wireless and love it.

Somebody may have already said something to this effect, I didn't read back to check: If this is your first tablet, you have to grit your teeth and push yourself through some get-acquainted sessions. There's a chance you'll hate it at first. You have to get to the point where you stop trying to use it, and just use it, if that makes sense. Once you relax and get out of your own way, you'll wonder how you ever got along without one.

My wife was just looking at the Cintiq Companion and sat there drooling.

I'm a hobbyist and not a particularly talented one, but...yeah. Everybody I know who plays for keeps in 3D modeling is lusting after the new Cintiq.
