unwanted edges on transmap
I'm wanting to put a jpegs on a simple primitve plane, I've created a black/white transmap and applied it. Mostly it works just how I want, except for a border that I don't want. Here is a screenshot below. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of said border?

Does the Texture and Trans map match 100% pixel size wise? Needs too.
One was saved directly from my browser (right clicking), the black and white map saved in powerpoint. Maybe if I save them both from powerpoint, that'll make a difference? let's see...
Umm.. Right click and Save is okay IF the file is NOT copyrighted. If it is this is NOT cool. If from any Product sold this is so Not Allowed.
Well as far as I remember, the page for each image said "royalty free", I assume that means it's OK to use them? (Not that I'm using them for profit or anything). I got a bunch from a site called www.sxc.hu
Some of their premium images cost money, but I avoided those and just used the free ones and right clicking seemed quicker than registering and downloading. It never occurred to me that could be a problem, but if it is please let me know (you know more about that stuff than me).
As for the border: It looks like the problem was caused by the texture and map being jpeg, when I used PNG for the same image, the border vanished. Yay!
probably the jpg was to hard compressed losing greyscale levels

png is a great format to use for things needing transmaps, as it is not only a lossless format, it also has built in alpha (transparency) channels.

I love collecting free pictures too but I think you need to read the license agreements. Some vary with each picture uploaded there.
The difference between right clicking there and signing up and downloading is you'll get a much larger image if you do it their way ;-)
Just for information, no the term "royalty free" does not mean the photo is free. it means you don't have to pay for it EVERY time you use it.
For example one might buy a photo image for a good deal of money, or a few cents ... and then be allowed to use it "unlimited" .... or 10,000 times or "once".

The edge on the transparency may be caused by a tiny border of white. Using some 'black' paint there would take care of it. Some image editors have an issue with that last pixel of space. The other way to deal with those borders is to crop the image a little.
