is there any good news about cararra lately?

i'm feeling too depressed to even add content to my wishlist

  • My DAZ purchases have dwindled since new management took over - and things just seem to be getting worse.  Must have gotten spoiled with the Platinum Club annual sales 3-4 years ago, because this one has barely sparked my interest.  Was coming here hoping for some good news with Carrara (which is my animating program of choice) - and looks like problems continue to linger.  I paid for the Indie Game developer stuff years ago and never used it much because of so many problems getting things into Unity.  Keep waiting for a clear troublefree route (which may now exist, hopefully) - but saw the FBX exporter troubles on this thread. I'm on a PC - and not clear if that's just a mac issue or both platforms (and sorry for mac users even if Windows people got spared).

  • Carrara is very overdue for an update... And it is still in the Daz3D for $100 or more for 8.5 Pro and it is over 2yrs old!!!  I loathe using DazStudio but I've found that it has become harder and harder to use newer content in Carrara (and Genesis 3 models, Carrara chokes and dies for me)

As someone who has paid for the upgrades from late version 6 to 7 Pro then 8 & 8.5 Pro still seeing the product on sale with no indication of it improving to me is a real annoying since there hasn't even been maintence updates in years.  Seriously Daz3D either admit you abandoned the product and pull it, or do due diligence and maintain it.

It's hard to even find Cararra on this site. (Where is it?)

If DAZ intended to support it, I'd think that they would communicate this one way or another. As it stands, my belief is that we've seen the end of it and that DAZ is interested solely in Studio and selling content.

Cararra is still used in my day-to-day work but I'm using some alternatives now. I'm comfortable with C, but moving on.

    I sure miss Eovia.

Thanks Leana, You give me hope. Last summer I upgraded to 8.5 Pro and V7 Pro Bundle and have been purchasing a lot of Genesis 3 products since in hopes of an update to fix the G3 problem with Carrara. Anything that is for G3 and G2 both is a bonus and nearly always a must have.

I'm hoping they also fix a few other problems also. Don't get me wrong... I'm happy with the new version and all the work DAZ did on it.

Well today I show it at $65 for Pro but $104.97 for standard. Could it be $65 since I am PC+ and finally now have 8.5 Pro?

I've owned Carrara Pro since version 4 only missing ver 7, no idea why. I do agree with you about C8.5 and Pro being so outdated and sorely needing maintenance updates and and an actual upgrade. I've had no problems with Carrara except with the smart content tab. It was a good idea to put it in but they seemed to have stopped there and not gone on to improve it as DAZ has done for Studio which I rarely use. I buy DAZ content for use in Carrara.

Well the last update actually made the program usable for me...the ability to change the text size was added.  Before that I couldn't use the program as text was too small.  But I think that and the smart content updates were the only additions.  So it has been updated but yes the addition of Genesis 3 is missing to be sure (although I could care less V4/M4 G1 and g2 is plenty currently).   Also with the last update we got Genesis 2, before that we only had V4 and G1.  Carrara development is, sadly, quite a bit slower but I think they will get there.   I would also like to see a addition of Space Navigator/Space Mouse support. Thought I am still tickled just being able to USE the program now. :)

When in doubt, I just go to my Product Library in my DAZ 3D account and download a copy. The file name is the version number, which is currently Carrara_8.5.1.19

This version number also shows on the splash screen when opening Carrara

    8.5.1.19 is correct.

Or click on the DAZ icon in the left upper corner.

  • My version doesnt show that information on the splash screen. How do I find it?

Try clicking the DAZ 3D icon at the top of the screen next to, File.

  • I've tried that and the attached image is what I get. As you can see there is no "version number listed" only a "build number", which is useless to me in determining if I have the latest and greatest.

8.5.0.243 is what you have there.

hoping next version doesnt require dim or internet access for my workhorse.  pleez pleez pleez >.<

  • DartanbeckDartanbeck Posts: 21,549

I love my DIM! Saves me so much time and headache! :)

  • I'm not a big fan of DIM. But I did discover that I dont have the most updated version of Carrara 8.5 Pro. Took care of that this morning for my Mac. Will need to do the laptop when I get home tonight.

  • Pardon me. I'm used to Products that just list the number (8.5.1.19). Not this version.build crap... (Carrarra 8.5 Pro, Build 243)

Ease up there. No offense intended. It was just a joke.

Also, you must not be on a Mac. OS X Panther, OS X Tiger, OS X Yosimite, Mavericks, etc. etc. All versions of OS X, but I'll be damned if I have a clue to the actual version number without looking at About My Mac.

Android builds just leave me hungry for dessert

  • Actually I do have a Mac. At work we just upgraded to El Capitan. Wish they'd just say a version number instead of that bullcrap. At home, I play on a Windows 7 laptop...

El Capitan is 10.11 (ten point eleven) :)
