Install Manager

I have been using Daz Studio for years with great success and have downloaded alot of content from Daz 3d. However, I simply cannot get Install Manager to work. Its a painfully clunky piece of software and it has prevented me using anything new from Daz 3d for months. I've read the readme etc and it is confusing.
Does anybody know the installation path it should be installing to for Daz Studio 3.2? I really want to continue downloading content via Daz and the old exe installers were great - but whatever I do content just does not appear in Daz 3 when Install Manager is used. As the exe files are no longer availble (even on older products) I just have no way of using what I have on Daz.
Does anybody have an answer to this?

The default path for DAZ Studio 3 was \DAZ 3D\Studio 3\Content, in your Documents folder, as I recall - certainly the Content folder is the one you should install to.
Thanks for the response. That is the folder I'm trying to get Install Manager to install to but it ain't working.
What happens when you try to install there? It should warn you that there is already content there, but it will still allow it.
I just simply says its has installed but when I go into Daz 3 the product is not there to use. There is no message etc from Install Manager.
I'm really frustrated with this because it also means I can not re-install older content I have already paid for because the exe installers are no longer available. Is there a way around this by requesting Daz send me files as exe's?
If you go to the Installed tab in DIM and find the item, then click the arrow on the right you have a command to list the isntalled files - does it show files that will appear in DAZ Studio? Whattop-level folders do you have showing in the Content pane in DAZ Studio?
It appears Install Manager does not work through a proxy. At work, we're proxied and firewalled and whatnot pretty severely. Can anyone from DAZ confirm or deny DIM's behavior when a proxy is involved? And/or provide a way to configure DIM to get through the proxy?
- Jasen.
This is what I have from IM in the installed tab - this product does not appear in my Daz 3 Figures, Pose or Props sections:

I don't mean to hijack the thread but: I thought the Daz Install Manager only worked for Daz Studio 4.x? Maybe I missed the memo or is sam_pick_2003 referring to something else?
I know some old installers want to install in the folder x:\program files\Daz Studio 3\content
Some content (mostly scripts/some shaders and items that install directly to the data folder) on work if the are installed in \program files\Daz Studio 3\content
Newer installers want to install their content in c:\Documents and Settings\user\my documents\Daz 3D\Studio 3
Hope this helps
Look at the root level folder, that is the default install location for the Install Manager. However DAZ Studio 3 doesn't look in that location for content by default. In DAZ Studio 3 go to Edit-->Preferences-->Content Directory Manager (I think it is content directory manager in Studio 3). Add this location C:/Users/Public/Documents/My DAZ 3D Library as a directory for both DAZ Studio formats and Poser Formats.
Install manager installs content. As long as the content works in Studio 3, Studio 2, Poser or whatever program you are using then you can use the DAZ Install Manager. The confusion comes in when people want to use Install Manager to install content to their regular install directory. While this is possible, it isn't recommended for a few reasons that I won't get into here. All you have to do is make sure that your software of choice is looking for content in the location that install manager installs to. By default this is c:/Users/Public/Documents/My DAZ 3D Library or Public/Documents/My DAZ 3D Library on a Mac.
This is very confusing. If I do this will Daz 3 be able to find the content I have currently installed - not in the folder created by Install Manager? Can I set Install Manager so it simply installs content to the same location where content installed using the Daz exe program and content from other sites are?
My issue with Install Manager is that is creates a layer of confusion and difficulty that didn't previously exist.
Is there an answer to the question I asked? If I redirect where Daz 3 looks for my content will I be able access existing content - particularly content not purchased from Daz?
You aren't redirecting, you're adding another folder. :)
I have more than a dozen different folders added. LOL
This is how I work with DIM and others I've helped find it helpful, I hope you do too:
I download DAZ store content to my external drive, WITHOUT renaming the zip files (i.e. IM0001234-01_ExampleFile.zip)
When you start the DIM program, you will see 3 tabs:
- Ready to Download (stuff from your DAZ account that have been updated into DIM file zip)
- Ready to Install (stuff sitting in whatever location/folder that holds your DIM zip files that the program has identified are ready to install)
- Installed (items from previous tab that the program installed on your instruction)
You can set the program to search the location of your folder where DIM zip files are contained (such as the ones you download from DAZ account) in the SETTINGS (icon next to ”help”) and to which folder you want to extract the contents into (DAZ runtime or Poser runtime, etc).
I promise you that if you follow the steps above, you will see just how much faster it is installing your contents.
This will only work with items purchased from this site as other stores (Rendo, RDNA, etc) do not have the same name formatting of their files that DIM will recognize.
I Hope this helps.
Okay, that's useful to know! Thanks.
