Ryzen 7 vs i7 help

I'm looking at getting a new pc. I can afford either a Ryzen 7 2700 or an intel i7 8700. On benchmark sites, the i7 performs slightly better than the Ryzen, but only has 6 cores compared to Ryzen's 8. Does core count make any difference in 3d apps? For example, rendering in Bryce or 3delight etc
I can probably afford a GTX 1060 6gb card. Is it better to go for an i5 and a 1070 instead?

In my opinion, I'd go with the Ryzen and use the money you save to go towards a bigger card. The GPU is where you're going to get the most bang for your buck. I do have a Ryzen 7 1800x and I'm very happy with it...coming from a previously die-hard Intel fan. My husband has the 2700x and is happy with it, but he doesn't render on his system, so I can't speak for it there. Just remember to go with an NVIDIA card if you want to use IRAY. I have a 1080TI and so far no scene I've made has been able to tank it.
