Back out DS update using system restore?

I'm contemplating updating to the latest DS version, but want to have a back out strategy.  In the past, I have taken an image of the C drive before the update, but this is a long process and the large image file has to be put somewhere.

I'm wondering if anyone has used Windows system restore to back out a DS upgrade successfully?  I've not had much luck with using system restore in the past in that it did not restore the things I wanted to restore.  Or is there another strategy I haven't considered that has worked well?

  • Before downloading the new version make a copy of the package files (for DS and the plug-ins) from the DIM Downloads folder. Then if need be you can (while working offline) pop them in over the top of the newer version, uninstall, and reinstall from the Ready to Install tab.

  • Thanks Richard, I hadn't thought of that.  I'll try and track down the package files for the currently installed version in the DIM downloads.  Only have a couple of plugins, which I actually never use now, so I won't ned to worry about those.  (I suspect they may not work with the newer version anyway.)

  • The main issue is the plug-ins that are part of the DS download, since those are updated with every version and won't work in older versions.
