Dforce & multiple simulation targets?

Has anyone run into this.

Using a Dforce clothing item on a figure with for example props etc.

Can you simulate the coth against both the figure and the attached prop.

(example a gun under a coat)

  • That should not be a problem - have you read through https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/203081/dforce-start-here#get_started ?

    Thanks;)

  • In the opposite vein, if there are two dforce objects, will hiding one prevent it from being re-simulated if you are already happy with how it looks while running a simulation on the other? e.g. hair and dress.

  • Use the Freeze Simulation button on the item(s) you don't want to simulate.

  • dForced items have to work together, so it's best to set your Collision Layers if you're worried about two items conflicting. In a case where two items overlap, whatever's closest to the surface of the body is Layer 1, anything that lays on top of that is the next layer higher, and so on, which means, although hair is attached to the head, if it also touches the same part of the shoulder covered by an article of clothing (i.e. dress) then the dress is Layer 1 and the Hair is Layer 2.

Unless you're doing a scene where someone with long hair puts on an overcoat with the intention of pinning the hair down - then the overcoat is one layer higher than the hair.

The "Freeze Simulation" button is very useful in that regard, and I use it a lot. However, there's one ting I find odd. When I don't like the simulation result and click on the "Clear" button in the Simulation Settings pane, all of the simulations are reset, including those that have the "freeze" button enabled. That makes it rather difficult to tinker with the simulation settings, especially since there doesn't seem to be an "Undo" for the "Clear" button. (This is with 4.11 beta, haven't tested 4.10 yet.) Is this intentional or a bug? If so, should I report it?

The option menu for the Simulation Settings pane should give two Clear commands, on for the whole scene and one - Clear dForce Simulation from Selected Item(s) - which is targeted.

    Oh, OK. Thank you!

This tricks me (the Clear button on the Sim Settings pane) often. You can also set a shortcut to the clear from selected item command - instructions here.

Sorry for the tardy reply. :-) Thank you for the instructions, I have done that now and created a "Geometry" menu for me now with my most commonly used items.

It would be nice if "Clear simulation data" left items alone that currently have "freeze simulation" enabled, but the "... for selected items" helps a lot.

By the way, Richard, thank you so much for all your fantastic forum posts. Your long dForce thread has been very useful to me, and I have also taken inspiration from your "big city scenes" thread. Thank you!

Um... What 'option menu'? I don't see how to access this.

Sorry, I usually put that in the middle of the instructions - it's accessible through the lined button in the top corner of the pane, or by right-clicking the pane's tab.

This must be me but I am trying to find the "simulate from memorized pose" to switch it off but cant find where this setting is located?

It's in Simulation Settings, if you show all using the group at the top-left it should be fairly obvious.

I assume you are reffering to the Simulation Settings tab?

Unfortunatly I found no such option listed under Presets, Editor or Advanced.

I also checked under the surfaces tab under Simulation and no luck.

The dforce item I am using is the "dForce H&C Coverall Jumpsuit" & Genesis 8 Female.
