Ears and animation...

Help!

I have issues when animating genesis3 / genesis8.

When I try to give life to the head with eye blinks, ears seams to loose their subdivision. They become edgy.

Not only in viewport but also in render.

Any idea?

Thank you very much for your help...

  • Which render engine are you uisng?

  • Octane render.

First I thougt that my orbx file was corrupt due to his size (more than 1Go) then I realised that this issue happened only when I tried to anime morphs.

I fact, what I see in viewport, is what I get in octane render...When ears are not smoth in preview, issue happens in render...

  • Does it also happen in 3Delight/Iray? You might check that the smoothing option iss till enabled for the ears' surface group, though I don't think that's it.

  • I just made a quick test : indeed, everything's Ok with Iray render, ears are smooth...  :)

It only happens in animations in octane, so strange!

Any idea to fix this issue with octane? Octane is so quick, it allows big scenes now.

I don't see how to smooth the ears only...If I click on ear/surface/geometry/smoothing/ nothing happens.  Smooth is on, angle 89, round corner radius is at 0, but can't be changed...

    Thank you very much Richard...

  • Sorry, I have no experience working with Octane.

  • When eyes blink, I see this issue in viewport, in preview. Ears loose their smoothness.

Is there any way to fix this in preview, so in octane too?

  • In the preview it's expected during manipulation, the default is to delay SubD until the slider is released. Whatever is happening with the ears is different as it is localised and persistent.

I remember reading in another post (that I can't find right now) that the Render SubD Level affects the output in Iray, but the View SubD Level affects the preview and any external render engines, like Octane. I'm not sure if that explains what you're seeing, but here's a similar post to the one I'm talking about https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/2583171/#Comment_2583171

  • Richard : I think I ll make a post on otoy forum to see if someone has a solution to fix this issue.

Thank you very much for your link Kitsumo : very interesting and helpfull! It  will help me to improve my renders...   :)

  • Yes, the vlue in the viewport is what is exported to external renderers like Octane and LuxRender, but if it was simply that the SubD level was dropping I would expect blockiness elswhere - which I am not immediatelyt seeing in the screenshot. If it is affecting all areas of the figure with a relatively low poly count then that would be the root of the problem.

  • Thank you very much for your help!

Mys issue is not fixed yet but I progressed  in understanding animation workflow.
